Via The Flight Deal, there are some very low fares available on Delta right now to Moscow & St. Petersburg, Russia, and Istanbul, Turkey.
Fares are as low as ~$314 round-trip in coach class to Moscow and St. Petersburg, and ~$408 to Istanbul. Other European cities, like Dublin and Prague, are also on sale (~$389 to ~$660 round-trip).
US departure cities include:
- San Francisco
- Washington, DC
As with most very low fares, this will probably not last long! So book quickly!
What’s the Deal?
This fare is NOT a mistake, but rather part of a fare war between Delta and United Airlines. So it will be honored by the airline.
There are a few restrictions:
- Tickets must be booked at least 7 days before departure
- Travel must occur between January 12, 2015 and March 12, 2015, or April 20, 2015, and May 14, 2015
- Fares are valid for departures from Sunday to Wednesday (leaving the US) and Monday to Thursday (returning to the US)
- A 7-day minimum stay is required
I searched on Delta’s website to see if there are still seats available. There are plenty! I found Washington, DC, to Moscow in January, February, and March for as low as ~$314 round-trip.
Note: Visiting Russia requires a visa!
There are lots of dates available to Istanbul for ~$408 round-trip.
Here’s a fare from Chicago to Dublin in February for ~$389!
I haven’t checked other European destinations, but there are many more included!
What If You’re Not in an Included City?
If you’re not in San Francisco, Chicago, Cleveland, Houston, Denver, or Washington, DC, you could get there cheaply using points (like British Airways Avios).
British Airways Avios work best for short-haul flights because you pay 4,500 points 1-way for flights less than 649 miles, and 7,500 points for flights up to 1,149 miles.
If you have the Southwest Companion Pass, you and a companion could fly to 1 of these cities for very little. That’s because with the Companion Pass, your companion flies with you for almost free on both paid and award tickets.
Note: You may have to change airports if you use Southwest to position to 1 of these cities!
You could also buy a cheap paid ticket from your home airport to an included city. But do the math to see if it makes sense.
Which Card to Use?
Don’t forget to use your Chase Sapphire Preferred (which earns 2X points on travel), Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express (which earns 3X points on tickets booked directly with airlines), or Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard (which earns 2.1% back on travel).
There’s nothing better than finding a low fare and getting bonus points for the ticket!
These are excellent deals on Delta for round-trip tickets to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Dublin, Istanbul, and other cities. And they aren’t mistake fares, so they’ll be honored by the airline.
Please leave me a comment if you book this ticket and let me know the deal you got!
