The best airport lounges in the US are widely considered to be AMEX Centurion lounges. You have access to these lounges if you have one of the following cards:
- The Platinum Card® from American Express
- The Business Platinum® Card from American Express
American Express is hard at work expanding and renovating their beloved Centurion Lounges. And that means extended periods of locked doors and temporary disappointment for AMEX Platinum cardholders.
Expect These AMEX Centurion Airport Lounges to Be Closed
There are 8 AMEX Centurion lounges in the US (with more on the way). So when even 1 lounge closes, that’s a severely large percentage of Centurion Lounges you no longer have access to!
Currently, there are 2 AMEX Centurion lounges that you need to keep an eye on. They’re located in:
- Miami – This lounge has been closed since mid-January 2019, with AMEX stating it will take “multiple weeks” before it reopens
- Seattle – Closing in March 2019 for renovation, though we have no timeline for completion
As for other completed renovations, both Centurion lounges in Dallas (completed in September 2018) and Las Vegas (completed just this month) have received big overhauls, and are back in business. And AMEX is building new lounges in Denver, New York, Los Angeles, Charlotte, and London!
It’s nice to see AMEX investing in their already fantastic lounges. If some have to temporarily close their doors, not all is lost. That’s because AMEX Platinum cards grant you access to other lounges in these airports. You’ll have membership to the following lounge programs:
- The International American Express Lounges
- Delta Sky Club (when you’re flying Delta that day)
- Priority Pass Select lounges
- Airspace Lounge
- Escape Lounge
- Plaza Premium Lounge
Let us know if you’ve been to one of the newly renovated AMEX Centurion lounges! Worth the wait?
