There are 8 AMEX Centurion lounges in the US (with more on the way).  So when even 1 lounge closes, that’s a severely large percentage of Centurion Lounges you no longer have access to!

As for other completed renovations, both Centurion lounges in Dallas (completed in September 2018) and Las Vegas (completed just this month) have received big overhauls, and are back in business.  And AMEX is building new lounges in Denver, New York, Los Angeles, Charlotte, and London!
