Via Running With Milesyou can fly Southwest from many US cities to domestic and international destinations for extra cheap between August 22, 2017, and December 13, 2017.  But you must book by July 27, 2017, at 11:59 pm in the time zone of the origin city.

I found flights from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Cayman for just $59 one-way on December 7, 2017.

How to Book It

Link:   Southwest Airfare Sale

Southwest has published another sale!  International fares start at $59 one-way.  But most fares are higher.

For example, you can fly one-way from:

  • Fort Lauderdale to Belize for $69, or 2,880 Southwest points
  • Tampa to Havana for $99, or 3,240 Southwest points
  • Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas for $157, or 5,904 Southwest points

This is a great way to avoid the beginning of winter!  You must purchase your ticket by July 27, 2017.

Here are the details:

  • If you are traveling within the US, you can get these deals between August 22, 2017, and December 13, 2017
  • Tickets are non-refundable
  • International travel is only valid on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Note:   There are blackout dates on certain routes, so make sure you take a look at your travel dates before you book!

If you have already booked Southwest flights, check this sale to make sure your booked flights aren’t available for less.  If they are, just cancel your Southwest flight for free and re-book with the better price.

Southwest Tips

Emily and I love Southwest sales.  That’s because when the cash price of a ticket goes down, award ticket prices go down, too!  Because Southwest bases are tied to the cash price.

In addition to the savings, there are lots of other benefits to flying Southwest including:

  • Cancel Without Penalty – You can always book now and cancel later.  On award flights the points and taxes will be refunded.  And if you book a paid flight, as long as you cancel within 10 minutes before your flight, you’ll get a credit towards another Southwest flight (good for 1 year)
  • Change Without Fees – If your plans change, you can make adjustments to your flight for free.  However, if your new flight costs more, you’ll have to pay the difference.
  • 2 Checked Bags for Free – Every passenger gets 2 free checked bags.  This saves you ~$25 per bag.
  • Bring Someone Along for the Ride for Free – With the Southwest Companion Pass, a friend or family member flies with you for free for up to 2 years!  This is an amazing deal and it’s the reason why Emily and I fly Southwest almost exclusively on domestic flights.  You can earn the Companion Pass in 8 easy steps!

Everyone Flying Southwest Gets 2 Free Checked Bags. That Savings Can Add Up, Especially If You’re Travel With a Big Family!

Folks with the Southwest Companion Pass could fly to these cities very cheaply.  That’s because with the Companion Pass, your companion flies with you for almost free on both paid and award tickets.

Hotel Information

If you book a sale flight, remember there are lots of ways to get cheap or free hotel rooms with points from credit card bonuses and spending.

To find hotels that can be booked with points, I use Hotel Hustle (which even shows you if rooms are actually available!) or AwardMapper.

Remember, you can transfer flexible points like Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express Membership Rewards to different hotel programs.

Note:  If you prefer to book paid stays, check out discount sites like Orbitz, Expedia, or TravelPony for deals.  But remember you won’t get stay credits or points (and might not have your elite status recognized!).

Airbnb is another terrific way to save money on accommodations, especially for longer stays.  Here are some tips on how to negotiate a better Airbnb price, and how to find a safe and comfortable Airbnb.

Several months ago I booked, with points, a Southwest flight on a similar sale. Since then the price has dropped four times, and each time I’ve modified my reservation, and received the difference in points. It pays to look at every sale they offer!
