As a frequent traveler, I like the option of staying in an Airbnb so I can save my hotel points and because I can usually get more for my money. However, as a mom, I don’t see enough family friendly Airbnbs and frequently book family-friendly hotels because of the reliable option for kitchenettes, a travel baby bed provided free of charge, and the minimal clutter.
Hotels have standardized rooms, and you know what you are getting. And with hotels, I can use points and get a free (or much cheaper!) stay. With Airbnbs, it’s always to some degree, a surprise.
Airbnb Can Expand on “Plus” Verification to Certify Family-Friendly Spaces As Well
Airbnb recently announced Airbnb Plus. Airbnb Plus is a “new selection of only the highest quality homes with hosts known for great reviews and attention to detail.” Airbnb sends employees out to assess the property for things like fast WiFi, style, easy check-in, essentials such as coffee, and fully equipped kitchens. If the property has these things, then they get the “Plus” badge.
I would like to see Airbnb taking this concept even further to appeal to certain groups, like families and business travelers. Family friendly Airbnbs could earn a “Family” badge. This would make Airbnb Family searches trustworthy and give incentives to hosts to make their spaces family friendly so they can appear first in search results. Sometimes, I can spend hours trying to find the most family friendly Airbnb to stay in, and having a reliable search function would make my life so much easier.
Airbnb Can Do a Much Better Job of Appealing to Families
Airbnb can do a much better job at targeting families, and helping to make family travel easier. I’d love if more Airbnbs had baby and toddler friendly things like a travel bed, child-sized furniture, and step stools. This would make packing for trips and traveling MUCH easier for folks with little ones in tow! Airbnb has created a “Family” filter, which displays properties that have a “kitchen and a TV.” However, a TV is not necessarily what’s most important to me as a mom.
When I tested the “Family” filter, they don’t have the best search results. For example, when I search for a home in Barcelona, and click on the “Families” filter, I get mixed results. The first Airbnb had family friendly amenities listed:
But the second location didn’t have any of these things.
Many times, I’ll book my family in these Family Friendly Hotels You Can Book With Points. I know what I’m getting, AND I can get the rooms for practically free.
But if you are interested in booking Airbnbs, then use my referral code to get $40 off your first rental.
