Via One Mile at a Time, Air Canada is offering a 35% bonus when you transfer hotel points to Air Canada Aeroplan miles through August 21, 2017.
This is the biggest transfer bonus we’ve ever seen for converting hotel points to Aeroplan miles!
This could be a good deal if you like using Air Canada Aeroplan miles for award tickets on Air Canada or Star Alliance partners like United Airlines. But it’s a potentially fantastic deal if you collect Starwood or Marriott points!
I’ll share the promotion details and help you decide if transferring hotel points to Air Canada Aeroplan with a 35% bonus is worth it.
Transfer Hotel Points to Air Canada With a 35% Bonus
Through August 21, 2017, you’ll get 35% more Air Canada Aeroplan miles when you transfer hotel points to Air Canada.
Participating hotel loyalty programs include:
- Best Western
- Choice Hotels
- Club Carlson
- Coast Hotels
- Hilton
- Le Club Accor Hotels
- Marriott
- Shangri-La
- Starwood
- Wyndham
Is It Worth It?
I do NOT usually recommend transferring most hotel points to airline miles, because the transfer ratios are typically poor. For example, 10,000 Hilton points convert to only 1,000 Air Canada Aeroplan miles.
1. Transfer Starwood Points
But if you collect Starwood or Marriott points, this deal is definitely worth considering! Because you can transfer Starwood points to Air Canada Aeroplan at a 1:1 ratio. And you’ll earn a 5,000 mile bonus (25%) for every 20,000 Starwood points you transfer.
Alternatively, you could transfer Marriott points to Starwood, then transfer your points to Air Canada Aeroplan miles too.
By moving Starwood points to Air Canada Aeroplan miles, you’ll earn the usual 25% bonus, then earn an additional 35% more miles!
For instance:
- 20,000 Starwood points = 33,750 Air Canada Aeroplan miles (25,000 miles + 35% bonus)
- 40,000 Starwood points = 67,500 Air Canada Aeroplan miles (50,000 miles + 35% bonus)
- 60,000 Starwood points = 101,250 Air Canada Aeroplan miles (75,000 miles + 35% bonus)
- 80,000 Starwood points = 135,000 Air Canada Aeroplan miles (100,000 miles + 35% bonus)
- And so on…
If you redeem Air Canada Aeroplan miles for expensive First or Business Class tickets, you could do very well with this transfer bonus.
For example, by transferring 80,000 Starwood points, you’d earn more than enough Air Canada Aeroplan miles for a round-trip Premium Economy ticket to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. Or a round-trip Business Class flight to Europe!
2. Marriott Hotel + Air Packages
Link: Marriott Hotel + Air Packages
If you have lots of Marriott OR Starwood points, consider moving points to Air Canada Aeroplan through Marriott Hotel + Air Packages.
Because remember, you can transfer Starwood points to Marriott at a 3:1 ratio.
With Marriott Hotel + Air Packages, you’ll get a 7-night Marriott hotel stay plus airline miles when you transfer Marriott points to certain airlines. Including Air Canada!
Use Marriott Points
As an example, you could transfer 270,000 Marriott points to Air Canada Aeroplan to earn a 7-night stay at a category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel plus 120,000 Air Canada Aeroplan miles.
With the 35% transfer bonus, you’ll get 162,000 Air Canada Aeroplan miles (120,000 miles x 1.35%). Enough for a round-trip Business Class ticket to Asia or South Africa!
That’s an amazing deal!
Use Starwood Points
But if you have Starwood points, you can do even better. Starwood points transfer to Marriott at a 3:1 ratio, so you could move 90,000 Starwood points to earn 270,000 Marriott points.
Then, book the same Hotel + Air package. So for just 90,000 Starwood points you’ll get:
- A 7-night stay in a category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel
- 150,000 Air Canada Aeroplan miles
This is a terrific way to use Starwood points!
Remember, to transfer points between Starwood and Marriott, you must first link your accounts. And you’ll get an instant status match.
Bottom Line
Through August 21, 2017, you’ll earn a 35% bonus when you transfer hotel points to Air Canada Aeroplan miles.
For most hotel chains, this isn’t a terribly exciting deal, because the transfer ratios aren’t very good. But if you transfer Starwood points or book a Marriott Hotel + Air Package, this could be a fantastic offer!
If you plan to take advantage of this deal, let me know how you’ll use your Air Canada Aeroplan miles!
