Via Live From a Lounge, IHG is giving folks a tiered bonus when they buy points by February 28, 2018, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time.  You can earn up to a 75% bonus when you buy at least 20,000 IHG points.

This isn’t the highest bonus we’ve ever seen, but I’ll help you decide if it’s still a good deal!

IHG Purchase Points Promotion

Link:   IHG Points Purchase Promotion

Through February 28, 2018, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time, IHG is offering a tiered bonus on purchased points.  You must buy at least 5,000 points to earn any bonus at all.

You’ll get:

  • 50% bonus when you buy 5,000 to 19,000 points
  • 75% bonus when you buy 20,000+ points

Points must be purchased in 1,000-point increments, and there’s a limit of 60,000 purchased IHG points per calendar year (NOT counting bonus points).

A 75% bonus means you can buy IHG points for as little as ~0.66 cents each.

Is This a Good Deal?

IHG normally sells points for 1.15 to 1.35 cents each.  So the ability to buy miles for ~0.66 cents each sounds pretty great!  But there are even cheaper ways to “buy” IHG points.

You can get points for as little as 0.6 cents each with the IHG Points & Cash trick, if you feel comfortable with it.  And that technique is always available.  So you shouldn’t feel rushed to jump on this current promotion.

Category 1 IHG hotels cost 10,000 IHG points per night.  So with this deal, you could buy a night at those hotels for ~$66 (10,000 points per night X 0.66 cents per point).

The Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Gonzales, Texas, Costs ~$90 per Night. But You Can Reserve the Same Room for 10,000 IHG Points

Or, if you can find a PointBreaks hotel that works with your travel plans, it will only cost 5,000 IHG points or $33 per night (5,000 X 0.66 cents per point)!

But it’s NOT a good idea to buy points for just any IHG hotel stay.

For example, the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC, sells rooms for ~$370 per night.  But it costs 70,000 IHG points to book an award night.  Even with this bonus, it would cost you $462 (70,000 X 0.66 cents per point) to buy enough points to book the room.

So do the math first and make sure it’s a good deal for your situation before you buy any IHG points!

Bottom Line

IHG is having a tiered sale on purchased points!  Until February 28, 2018, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time, you can earn up to a 75% bonus, depending on how many IHG points you buy!

This might be a good deal for some hotel stays.  But do the math first to ensure it makes sense for your situation!
