Update:  This drawing is over, but you can get $95 off the 1st year’s annual fee on the Chase Club card.

I wrote earlier about 2 ways to get the $395 fee waived on the United Club card, which gets you access to United lounges and earns 1.5 United miles per $1 spent.

One of the ways was to stop by a United Club at the airport and get an invitation code from the marketing materials advertising the credit card in the United lounge and then responding to this offer for a 1st year fee waived version of the United Club card.

Million Mile Secrets reader Thala (thanks!) has very graciously donated 6 codes which can be used to get the 1st year annual fee waived ($395) on the United Club card.

If you’re wondering why the annual fee is so high, it might be because of the excessive packaging that comes with the card!

So please leave a comment if you’d like one of those codes and will apply for the United Club card.  I’ll draw 6 random winners and email you the codes.

The United Club card is a great card for Big Spenders i.e. folks who can easily spend tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars or more.  That’s because the card offers 1.5 United miles per $1 spent on the card which makes it a great deal for many purchases.

However, travel and dining purchases earn 2 Ultimate Rewards points on the Chase Sapphire Preferred and you can then transfer those Ultimate Rewards points to United and effectively earn 2 United miles per $1 spent versus 1.5 miles per $1 spent on the United Club card.

So you’d need to spend $66,667 on the United Club card  ($66,667 X 1.5 miles earned per $1) to earn 100,000 United miles or 1 Business Class ticket to Europe or South America.

This is also great to use for tax payments because even with the 1.89% convenience fee for using a credit card, you’re paying 1.26 cents per United mile.  1.26 cents per United mile is a pretty good deal for United miles, but do the math to see if it makes sense for you.  For example, you’d earn 100,000 United miles for making a tax payment of $66,667 and spend $1,260 in convenience fees (or just slightly more than a coach ticket to Europe).

You also get Hyatt Platinum and Avis President’s club status with the card.

Bottom Line:  Please comment if you’d like one of the six codes to the United Club card.  Thanks again to Thala for donating the 6 codes!
