I love flying just as much as my next adventure! The thrill of taking off, being 30,000 feet above the ground, and people watching inside airplanes has always been a love of mine.
However, there are definitely downsides to flying, like getting dehydrated, becoming sick, and the chance of someone with questionable judgment being on your flight. One downside many people do not know about long flights is the chance of getting a blood clot while flying.
Sitting still for long periods of time puts everyone at risk of blood clots. That is why for any flights longer than 3 hours, I refuse to fly without compression socks!
Why Compression Socks Are the Best!
We’ve all been there… a long flight in coach, and you finally get to stand up. Do you remember the shooting pain around your ankles? That is due to swelling and lack of circulation in your legs.
Compression socks steadily squeeze your legs, helping your veins and leg muscles to move blood without issue.
Many people would argue these are only needed for people that are older or in poor health. While this is true, there have been stories of perfectly young & healthy flyers experiencing blood clots. While the odds are small, my largest mantra is “better to be safe than sorry.”
While my socks may not be the most fashionable, they absolutely work! However, they are very snug, so they take a bit of getting used to. My best suggestion is to pack them in your personal bag so you can throw them on when you sit down at your seat. Put them on before takeoff and your legs will thank you later.
Even though my personal preference is to always be in sandals, this is my must have travel item!
You can purchase these at many large retailers, or on Amazon. They range anywhere from $6 to $50.
