Million Mile Secrets reader Corridor! (thanks!) writes in with a quick way to get 500 free US Air miles by downloading the US Air shopping mall toolbar and then either making a search or a purchase.

500 Free US Air Miles
500 Free US Air Miles!

The terms say (bolding mine):

To qualify for the initial download 500 bonus miles offer, make at least one search or purchase using the Dividend Miles StoreFront Assistant. Bonus offer is valid only for the initial download and install of the Dividend Miles StoreFront Assistant. Not valid on subsequent downloads or installs.

The FAQ says that you should receive the miles within 60 days from the end of the month in which you made the search.

If you have only one computer at home, but multiple family members with US Air Dividend Miles account, you can download the toolbar once, and log-in separately to the toolbar with each family member’s Dividend Miles information and complete a search or make a purchase.

If you don’t have a US Air Dividend Miles account, you can sign-up for one here.  Award Wallet is a great way to keep track of different family member’s account information.

Bottom Line:  500 points for downloading a toolbar and making a search isn’t too bad and will extend the expiration of your US Air Dividend Miles by 18 months i.e. you won’t have to worry about your miles expiring for another 18 months.

How long does it typically take for these miles to post?

When I downloaded it, it worked in Internet Explorer, but not in FireFox

Can you download it, search for 5 minutes and then delete it? Surely not. How long do I need to keep it active?

you are correct, I used it per account(s) that I and Ms. BillyBob have.

@ MMS,

The reason for VMWare or Windows Virtual PC is that I can “virtually” build another computer on my computer (i.e. two virtual computers (or more) on one physical computer). This gives me the ability to test software, download crapware (or in this case, toolbars), and then just delete the whole thing.

It’s a form of a “sandbox” to play in, so to say.

It’s really fun for playing with virus’s and malware…just to see what they do and how they operate!

@Ryan: Finally I was able to log in. I got a message to log in through my barclays usairwaysmastercard account and click on the rewards boost link. Now I am able to log in fine.

Million Mile Secrets

@BillyBob @Ken – Sorry if I’m dense, but how would VMWare help?

@Max – Ha! I like your high standards.

@PatMike – I believe the miles earned from searching counts as a hit, not the miles from installing the toolbar.

@Samuel @Ryan @JT– Looks like it is working now!

Mommy Points – The free hits were the best kind!

@FrequentFlyerPost – I believe the terms say that you get the bonus for installing the toolbar only once.

@emily – Interesting idea, I never though of that!
