Summer has officially drawn to a close, and many people (including myself!) mourn the loss of warm weather and vacations.  But vacations shouldn’t have to end, and researchers even believe that 3-day weekends are better for your health than a long vacation.  That’s because they are less work to plan, and less work to catch up on when you get back to the office.  I think a mix of both is the best medicine, provided you can get time off from work.

When I take my 3-day weekend trips, I use credit card rewards points.  My favorite travel rewards program is Chase Ultimate Rewards because I can transfer the points to airfare partners like Southwest Airlines and United Airlines and to hotels like Hyatt.

5 Best Cities Perfect for a 3-Day Weekend

1.   Savannah, Georgia

Savannah is a perfect place to visit for the fall.  The city is known for its beautiful parks, the most famous of which is Forsyth Park. It’s also known for historic architecture, and you can find a mix of Federal, Victorian Regency, Greek and Gothic Revival architecture.

2.   Nashville, Tennessee

Country music lovers will love a short vacay to Nashville.  Country music venues include the Grand Ole Opry House, The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Johnny Cash Museum.  You’ll also be able to find lots of live music venues.

3.   Houston, Texas

Visitors to Houston will enjoy the Space Center Houston to get the inside scoop on the US space program.  In the evening, enjoy a show at the renowned Houston Grand Opera.  Houston also is now the most diverse city in the US, and you’ll find no shortage of quality ethnic restaurants to enjoy.

4.   Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe, with its booming arts scene, may turn into the next Austin.  When you’re there, be sure to check out an immersive art experience at Meow Wolf.  Also, visit the Museum of International Folk Art.  The founder’s philosophy believed “The art of the craftsman is a bond between the peoples of the world.”

5.   Salt Lake City, Utah

Outdoor enthusiasts will thrive in Salt Lake.  Visitors should check out Big Cottonwood Canyon and the Natural History Museum of Utah.  At Big Cotton Canyon, you can go hiking, biking, picnicking, rock-climbing, camping, and fishing.  It has two ski resorts that are popular among skiers and snowboarders.
