Joseph:   Quick rundown of airline sales and more!

1.   Southwest Sale

Link:   Southwest Sale of the Summer

Southwest is having a nationwide sale with flights starting at $49 one-way!  Valid travel dates are from June 5 to October 31, 2018.  And you’ll have to book by this Friday, May 18, 2018.

Fly to Chicago From Several Cities for Just $49 One-Way

There are LOTS of $49 fares, so check these deals out to see if any routes fit your upcoming travel.  Some interesting one-way flights are:

  • Atlanta to New Orleans – $49
  • Detroit to Baltimore  – $49
  • Salt Lake City to Las Vegas – $49
  • Charleston to Chicago – $79
  • St Louis to Austin – $79
  • Tampa to New York – $99
  • Orlando to San Juan – $149

If you already have a Southwest flight, this is a great time to check and see if your flight is cheaper.  Because you can always cancel and re-book your ticket for free!  And because the price of Southwest award seats are tied to the cash price of the ticket, you can book award flights for less too.

Remember to check out Million Mile Secrets contributor Lyn’s post on how to tell if a Southwest sale is worthwhile.

2.   United Airlines Award Sale Starting at 7,500 Miles Round-Trip

When you book by May 21, 2018, you can get a discount of up to 6,250 miles on your United Airlines award flights!  This sale is only valid for travel between June 9 and June 27, 2018.

You’ll Get 25% Off Award Flights to 7 Destinations If You Have a United Airlines Credit Card and Book During This Promotion

Folks who have a United Airlines credit card or United Airlines elite status can get 25% off, and all other United Airlines loyalty members will get 20% off, on round-trip flights from the continental US to:

  • Aspen, Colorado
  • Bozeman, Montana
  • Vail, Colorado
  • Gunnison, Colorado
  • Steamboat Springs, Colorado
  • Jackson Hole, Wyoming
  • Montrose, Colorado

United Airlines flights normally cost 10,000 miles for domestic flights traveling a distance of 700 miles or less.  And 12,500 miles for flights over 700 miles.  So if you’re a United Airlines cardholder like me, you can book a round-trip flight to Vail for just 18,750 United Airlines miles round-trip!

3.   Delta Award Sale to Europe

Link:   Go See in a Flash:   Europe

Delta is having a flash award sale to Europe!

When you book your flight with miles by May 16, 2018, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time, you’ll get prices as low as 48,000 Delta miles round-trip.  Valid travel dates are from September 8 to November 15, 2018, and January 10 to March 15, 2019.

You can find these prices to 9 European cities:

  • London
  • Zurich
  • Madrid
  • Dusseldorf
  • Frankfurt
  • Berlin
  • Nice
  • Shannon
  • Reyjkavik

Reykjavik Is Beautiful This Time of Year

Delta doesn’t have an award chart, but their lowest-priced award seats usually cost 60,000 miles round-trip to Europe.  So 48,000 miles is a good deal!

4.   Upgrade Your Old Chase IHG Card and Earn 5,000 Bonus Points

Link:   Chase IHG Premier

Chase is sending folks offers to upgrade their old Chase IHG card (recently discontinued) to the new Chase IHG Premier card with the incentive of earning 5,000 IHG points after your first purchase by June 30, 2018.

If you received this offer, please don’t do it.  Because if you upgrade your card, you won’t earn a sign-up bonus!  Here’s our review of the Chase IHG Premier.

New applicants for the Chase IHG Premier will earn:

  • 80,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. Plus, a $50 statement credit after your first purchase
  • 5,000 bonus points after adding your first authorized user and making your first purchase in the first 3 months of account opening

It’s FAR better to apply for the Chase IHG Premier card and earn 85,000 points and a $50 statement credit than to upgrade your current IHG card and earn just 5,000 IHG points.

Plus, upgrading your card may run you the risk of losing out on your unrestricted free night certificate at any IHG hotel!

We don’t earn a commission for this offer, but we’ll always tell you how to get the best deal!

Just got refunded 2,100 Southwest points with no hassle whatsoever. Would have never thought to see if the points costs of my previously booked flights had gone done without this post. Thanks!

You can keep the old card if you sign up for the new one, correct? And would still get the unrestricted free night with the old card?

Alaska is running a one day sale on a bunch of flights today too.
