You now get 2,500 free Southwest points by signing-up for the Southwest Rapid Rewards program and opting-in for Southwest emails!

Who Doesn’t Love FREE Southwest Points!

Southwest points are very easy to use and you can use your Southwest points to book any seat on the plane without worrying about having to find award seats.

We use Southwest for domestic flights almost exclusively because Emily flies virtually free with our Companion Pass!  And all 4 versions of the Southwest credit card currently have a 50,000 point sign-up bonus, so it is pretty easy to get the Southwest companion pass.

Here’s How You Get the Points!

Step 1

Sign-up for the Southwest Rapid Rewards program via this link to get 2,000 free Southwest points.  However, this offer is valid ONLY for new members.  But you can always sign-up your other family members!

Step 2

You get an extra 500 points by signing-up for email updates.

500 Miles to Opt-in for Emails from Southwest!

Southwest points are worth 1.67 cents per point if you book your flights before March 31, 2014, so 2,500 points is worth ~$42 (2,500 Southwest points X 1.67 cents per Southwest point).

Each Southwest point is worth 1.42 cents per point, for bookings after March 31, 2014, so 2,500 Soutwest points are worth ~$36  (2,500 Southwest points X 1.67 cents per Southwest point).

Terms & Conditions

This offer is only good for new members.

You get 2,000 miles credited to your Southwest account automatically after you enroll.

However, you have to get the emails for 3 months before you get the extra 500 miles.

The Fine Print

Once the final 500 miles are added to your account you can unsubscribe from the emails. 🙂

Southwest points do not expire as long as you have activity on your account every 24 months.  See this post for more information on how to keep your miles from expiring.

Do These Count for the Companion Pass?

Unfortunately, these 2,500 points do NOT count for the Southwest Companion pass.

Bottom Line

You can get 2,500 miles from Southwest when you enroll in the Rapid Rewards program and opt-in for email updates!

Emily and I love flying Southwest because we save a lot of money with the Companion Pass!

2,500 miles to become a Southwest Rapid Rewards member is one of the best offers which I’ve seen.  If you are not a Southwest Rapid Rewards member, this – together with the Southwest credit cards – is a great reason to join!

Even, mine came through right away.

I signed up about 3 days ago and the 2000 points just showed up for me this morning.

Odd, I just tried to sign up through the link, signed up for all the emails and haven’t received any points 2 days after doing so.

Even if you don’t fly Southwest , you could always book a car rental or hotel with their points. I’ve booked car rental couple times, just because southwest points are so easy to accumulate.

Ken – since 1/27 due to points not needing to cover certain taxes within the normal revenue flights, the value of the SW points seems to be closer to $.02 / dollar. My sister and bro-in-law just booked family of 5 on a trip this summer and spent 99,910 points and $50 taxes for flights that would have cost $2,010. Thats ~1.96 cents per mile. They were thrilled. Even if you take into consideration the $69 annual fee per card and $50 in taxes, it came out to 1.82 cents / mile. Looks like we have a window between now and 3/31 for great SW redeeming! Something that is actually offsetting the upcoming deval.
