Link:   TripAdvisor $25 Amazon Gift Card Promotion

TripAdvisor is offering folks a $25 Amazon gift card when you book a hotel stay through their site by September 5, 2016, and write review by October 15, 2016.  There are no minimum stay requirements, but you must spend at least $200 before taxes and fees.

You must book your hotel through this link and use a valid US address to qualify for the deal.  There’s a limit of 1 gift card per person.

After your review is published and TripAdvisor confirms your stay, you’ll receive a $25 Amazon gift card via email.

Is This a Good Deal?

This could be a good deal for some.  Especially if you don’t have hotel points you can use for free nights.  But I suggest shopping around to be sure you’re getting the best price.

Compare to Booking Directly With the Hotel

Don’t forget, certain hotel chains give you perks or discounts for booking directly with them.  And most hotels (except Hyatt) require you to book your stay directly to take advantage of elite status benefits.

Plus, you typically will NOT earn hotel points or elite stay credits when you book through a 3rd-party site like TripAdvisor.

Competing Promotions

There are other ongoing promotions such as the “10th night free” perk with hotels.com.  And earning Orbitz Orbucks to use with no blackout dates at thousands of hotels.  Or credit card deals like Citi Prestige’s 4th night free perk (through July 23, 2017).

Good for a Short Stay With a Good Price!

But if you have a short stay coming up, and you find a good price on TripAdvisor, this is an easy way to earn a $25 Amazon gift card in the few minutes it takes to write a review.

I am hesitant about using TripAdvisor to book any hotel after the one experience I had.

I booked a very small, local hotel in Sicily through TripAdvisor after I was unable to book using the hotel’s website. When I emailed the hotel to ask a question, I found out that TA did not inform the hotel of the booking, even though I had to make payment at the time of the booking (it was refundable). The owner, via email, said he would book me directly and asked me to cancel the booking through TA. When I complained to TA’s booking service, I was told that they hold the booking and then place it closer to the date of stay. WTH???? I did end up having to jettison the entire trip due to husband’s illness, but I am rescheduling it, and for sure, I will not be booking anything through TripAdvisor.

I usually stay in Hiltons, and I agonize over this every time I book a hotel. However, I usually end up booking thru Hilton directly, because I’m a Gold, and I usually get free breakfast, and an upgraded room a lot. Not every time, but most of the time. Even one free breakfast is worth the $25 you get here… Only go to third party bookers when there is no Hilton or SPG hotel….
