Via Wandering Aramean, you can book United Airlines round-trip coach award flights within the US for 20% fewer miles! There are no official details on this sale from United Airlines. So act quickly because the sale probably won’t last long!
Within the continental US, you’ll pay 20,000 United Airlines miles for a round-trip coach ticket, which normally costs 25,000 United Airlines miles.
Or pay 28,000 United Airlines miles for round-trip flights to Alaska, which normally cost 35,000 United Airlines miles.
I’ll explain the deal!
What’s the Deal?

United Airlines is offering a 20% discount on domestic, round-trip coach award tickets. There are conditions:
- Discount is valid for round-trip tickets only
- Only coach saver award tickets are discounted
- Not valid for peak travel dates
With this sale, for round-trip saver award flights you’ll pay:
- 16,000 United Airlines miles for flights less than 700 miles
- 20,000 United Airlines miles for flights within the continental US
- 28,000 United Airlines miles for flights to Alaska
- 36,000 United Airlines miles for flights to Hawaii
I found discounts on travel dates through December 2016.
For example, I found a round-trip, non-stop flight departing Newark on October 24, 2016, and returning from Honolulu on October 31, 2016, for 36,000 United Airlines miles. This flight normally costs 45,000 United Airlines miles.
This is a nice discount! But keep in mind, folks on the West Coast can fly to Hawaii for even less (25,000 British Airways Avios points).
Or I found a round-trip, non-stop flight departing Houston on October 2, 2016, and returning from Chicago on October 6, 2016, for 20,000 United Airlines miles. The cheapest you’d normally find is 25,000 United Airlines miles.
Looking for More United Airlines Miles?
Remember, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to United Airlines at a 1:1 ratio if you have cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink Plus small business card. Or soon with the highly anticipated Chase Sapphire Reserve card!
You could also consider the United MileagePlus Explorer card, which gets you a free checked bag on United Airlines flights when you use the card to pay for your ticket.
Just remember, Chase now has stricter approval rules. So if you’ve opened ~5 or more credit cards from any bank (excluding certain business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for most Chase cards.
