A few days ago I told you about the Chase IHG card receiving a terrible restriction on its valuable free night.

It looks like that card is on its way out.  But Chase has just introduced 2 new Chase IHG cards!

You can now sign-up for the Chase IHG Rewards Club Traveler Credit Card  and Chase IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card.  Neither card comes with an uncapped annual free night, like the old Chase IHG card.  So they aren’t NEARLY as valuable.  But they do have several handy benefits that are definitely worth a look.

The information for the IHG Rewards Club Traveler Credit Card has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Here’s a quick review of these 2 new IHG credit cards from Chase.

1.   Chase IHG Traveler

The Chase IHG Traveler card is the most basic IHG credit card.  You’ll earn 60,000 IHG points when you spend $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

You’ll also get:

  • 5 IHG points per $1 at IHG Hotels
  • 2 IHG points per $1 at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants
  • 1 IHG point per $1 on everything else
  • 4th night free for award stays of 4+ nights
  • Gold Elite Status when you spend $10,000 on purchases each calendar year
  • 20% off when purchasing points

The card comes with a $29 annual fee, NOT waived the first year.

New Chase IHG Cards
Gold Elite Status Comes With Benefits Like Extended Check-Out, a Welcome Amenity, and Even 1 Free Amazon Kindle e-Book per Quarter!

Keep in mind, you’ll only earn Gold Elite status if you spend $10,000 on purchases in a calendar year.  It’s NOT automatic.

We don’t earn a commission for this card, but we’ll always keep you updated on the newest offers!

2.   Chase IHG Premier

Link:   Chase IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card

The Chase IHG Premier is the more premium IHG card.  It comes with 80,000 IHG points after you spend $2,000 in the first 3 months from account opening.

With the Chase IHG Premier you’ll also get:

  • 10 IHG points per $1 at IHG hotels
  • 2 IHG points per $1 at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants
  • 1 IHG points per $1 on everything else
  • Annual free night at participating IHG hotels that cost 40,000 IHG points or less per night
  • 10,000 bonus IHG points after you spend $20,000 and make one additional purchase each cardmember year
  • 4th night free for award stays of 4+ nights
  • Platinum Elite Status
  • 20% off when purchasing points

The card comes with an $89 annual fee, that’s NOT waived the first year.

Are These Cards a Good Deal?

Even though the annual free night that comes with the Chase IHG Premier is limited to hotels that cost 40,000 points or less per night, the card is still worth it in my opinion.

It’s not easy to find an IHG hotel that costs less than $89 (the card’s annual fee).  So as long as you foresee yourself staying in an IHG hotel at least 1 night per year, the Chase IHG Premier will save you money.

New Chase IHG Cards
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Pacifica Can Cost ~$290 per Night. But You Can Use the Annual Free Night From the Chase IHG Premier to Stay for Free!

You can see all the hotels that you can NOT use the annual free night with here.

I like that both cards have a 4th award night free benefit.  This is replacing the 10% rebate you would earn for award nights with the old Chase IHG card.  So as long as you stay in increments of 4 nights, you’ll get a better value than the previous 10% rebate.

We don’t yet know if these cards are affected by the Chase “5/24 Rule”.  Regardless, I do NOT recommend this card if you’re new to the miles & points hobby.  Because there are credit cards with more valuable sign-up bonuses and benefits that you should open first.

Bottom Line

Chase is now issuing 2 new IHG co-branded credit cards!

The Chase IHG Traveler comes with 60,000 IHG points when you spend $2,000 in the first 3 months from account opening.  And the Chase IHG Premier comes with 80,000 IHG points after you spend $2,000 in the first 3 months from account opening.

If you’re new to the miles & points hobby, I’d hold off on applying for these cards.  Because there are credit cards with more valuable sign-up bonuses and benefits that you should open first.

How can i enroll my card to redeem the points on it? someone show me how?

Just got the IHG premier card.

I also have the old IHG basic card that has the 10% rebate.
I assume when redeem my 85k points from this offer I would still get the 10% rebate from my old card. This kinda helps make this card better since you get the 4th night free benefit and the 10% rebate benefit from the older card. 🙂

Million Mile Secrets

You should be able to use the benefits from both cards! Although at some point I suspect they’ll discontinue the old IHG card.

Several questions:
1)Do you know how long they will be offering the 80K offer because I am thinking of getting the Ink Cash Business card 1st (since I have the Reserve making it worth $750)for the 50K since that is probably for a limited time OR do you think BOTH offers will stick around?
2)Looking to use points I’ve accrued with my old IHG card plus points from the new IHG Premier card at a 50,000/night hotel AND my free night from old card since fine print says you can use free nights you get before May 2018 ANYWHERE and I just got mine. So I would be booking 5 nights at 50,000/Night using 1 free night from old card and points for an additional 4 nights and getting 4th night free for 150,000 points. Will this work?
3)Do you think I can use cash and points and still get the 4th night free since I will be a little short on points and it’s not a good value to transfer Ultimate Reward Points (I will if I have to though)?
4)Do you think it worth the credit hit to add an additional user for the 5K extra points? (My additional user has already opened 5 credit cards in 2 years.)

Million Mile Secrets

Hey Tammy!

1 – We don’t know how long the 80k offer will be around, but 80k IHG offers pop up now and again. So even if you miss it, I’m sure it will come back around soon enough.
I definitely agree you should open the Ink Business Cash first.

2 – I see no reason why this wouldn’t work.

3 – I can’t say for certain, but I HIGHLY doubt cash + points will qualify for the 4th night free. Other similar programs, like Marriott and Starwood, do not qualify cash + points stays. PLEASE do not transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to IHG, they’re worth so much more with other programs. You can buy them for VERY cheap using the Points & Cash trick.

4 – If your additional user is fine with it, definitely!

If I have the old IHG Chase card, should I cancel it before it is converted to one of the new ones so I can earn the bonus offer later on one of the new ones?

Million Mile Secrets

You can still earn the bonus on the new IHG cards even if you currently have the old card.

Just to confirm, I currently have the old version of IHG card, I can still apply for the new IHG premiere card. Is this correct?

correct. they are different cards. I am keeping my old one and this new one is in the mail to me right now

I have the old IHG card. Will the 4th free night apply to the old card or does it only apply to the new card program?

Million Mile Secrets

The 4th night free benefit on award stays only applies to the 2 new versions of the card.
