Gilt Groupe is offering 1,500 United miles for NEW users.  You also earn 5 miles per $1 spent at Gilt Groupe for the next 6 months.

Gilt Groupe is a member only shopping website, and since I’m not much of a shopper I would have never heard of them…until they offered 1,500 free United miles for new users who make 1 purchase!

I value United miles at ~1 cent per mile, so I was willing to spend up to $15 (1,500 miles X 1 cent = $15) to buy something, even if I didn’t want it, just for the 1,500 United miles.

Fortunately, FreeFrequentFlyerMiles has made it very easy to find cheap items on Gilt Groupe!

The cheapest item which he found was a Sushi mat for $8.90 (including shipping), but that is now sold out.

He also found spices for $10, maple syrup for $11.90 or a Japanese eggplant for $12.90.  Not only will you get the miles, but also some produce or potential gifts for the holidays!

T0 see the complete list click on “FreeFrequentFlyerMiles” —> Click on “Buying Stuff” in the left —> Scroll down until you see “GILT and United and Continental Airlines”

I was thinking of buying the spices for $10, but decided to get the maple syrup for $11.9, including shipping, since that’s something we could use for breakfast.

Maple Syrup or Peach Chutney?

To find the maple syrup:

  • Click on “Taste”
  • Then click on “Pantry”
  • Then click on “Honey, Syrups, & Preserves”
  • Then click on  “Sort By: Price” to the right

Update:  BunMama suggests buying an e-voucher for $5.49 for 1/2 pound of coffee (Under “Cty” then select “Chicago” and then scroll to “Noble Tree Coffee & Tea” and Angelina Aucell suggests getting a $10 dinner voucher.

Bottom Line:  This is a cheap way to earn miles to extend the expiration of your United account or to get miles + maple syrup for a low price!

Ventee Privee, an online storefront is giving a $20 statement credit for first purchase with Amex card. I have about 6 amex cards and used one as a test case and the credit came right on through. Just ordered five more times since they have cheaper items today for Revol, french porcelain plates I believe. Just wanted to share with everyone. Plus since my orders have been over $25, gotten five dollar statement credits through Gift Chain as well!

Million Mile Secrets

@Charles – Interesting and thanks for sharing!

Before and After screen shots can be found on this Milepoint post.

Million Mile Secrets

@Maury – It would be fair to honor the promotion until the terms changed. That said, I don’t know what Gilt will do, but Gary has provided a link to both the before and after screen shots.

@Gary Steiger – Gary thanks for the link to the Milepoint post.

@Eric M – Thanks for sharing! And thanks to everyone for figuring out what happened and sharing!

As I posted on Flyertalk, terms 9-12 were added:

9. All MileagePlus and OnePass terms and conditions apply. 10. MileagePlus and or OnePass number will receive the acquisition offer (1,500 points at first purchase) one time only. 11. Initial transaction must meet a $25 minimum product value (exclusive of taxes and/or shipping and handling fees) in order to qualify for the 1,500 bonus mile offer.

Update: A reader confirms that I did not miss this condition – it was added the night of December 8, 2011. (Whew!) He says he will post a screen shot of the original Learn More page on Milepoint. I will post the link to it on my website when it appears.

Does anyone else have that screen shot? If so, please send it to me and to Darius. Thanks.

How about if you made the purchase before they enacted the $25 rule? Will I get the 1500 miles?
