I have to share my latest (and best!) burger experience!

I recently visited San Diego to attend & present at FinCon 2016.  While walking hungrily through the San Diego airport, I noticed a burger place called The Counter.  And, they had veggie burgers!  So I got one!

This Is No Ordinary Burger. Little Did I Know the Delicious Combination That Was Waiting for Me!

I thought I’d share.  Just in case you’re looking for a good airport burger!

My Experience at The Counter

Like most folks, I don’t expect much from airport food.  I find the food is usually overpriced and unmemorable. There are few exceptions such as Tortas Frontera in Chicago O’Hare airport, but they are few and far apart!

Hmmm…Ordinary Long Line, or Diamond in the Rough?

That’s why I grew curious when I saw a long line outside of The Counter.  Was an airport burger worth waiting in line for?

The Veggie Option Sounded Delicious!

I don’t eat meat any more, but I still definitely like to eat!  So when I saw the option for “housemade vegan veggie,” I decided to jump in line and explore!

I ordered my vegan veggie burger with cheese, sautéed onions and avocado on a brioche bun.  And with a side of 50/50 regular fries and sweet potato fries.  YUM!

I may eat vegetarian food, but it isn’t always greens! 🙂

The Counter San Diego Review
The Sides and Toppings Were on Display to Tempt the Hungry Bellies in Line!

I didn’t know what to expect.  But the first word that comes to mind is delicious.  And the second word is MESSY!  I’m already a messy eater, so I needed extra napkins for this meal.  I got some of the food in my beard too! And maybe should’ve had a fork, too. 😉

The toppings were piled on high, and they were generous with their sides.  It’s been a long time since I’ve had such tasty food in an airport!

In fact, I dare say this is the best airport burger I’ve had!

Not only was it worth the wait, but it tasted amazing, had high-quality vegan and vegetarian ingredients, and required multiple napkins.  This one will be hard to beat!

Bottom Line

I found the best airport burger at San Diego Airport!  I particularly appreciated the vegan AND vegetarian option.  And the fresh ingredients and tasty sides.

If you happen to find yourself in San Diego Airport, The Counter is located in Terminal 1, near Gate 9. 😉

Nice to see that it is not only a “veggie burger” but also a Vegan burger. Those are rare and hard to find…hence theirs is “house made”. Good to know for my next flight on Southwest in/out of SAN, provide it is not Gate 1 or 2.

Million Mile Secrets

Those are rare indeed!

Best veggie burger in an airport I’ve tried is Root Down in PHX. Also have a location off airport, but it honestly influenced where I’d layover for an upcoming flight!

I’ve eaten at Root Down in Denver, but I don’t think I ordered a burger. Will try that next time!

You should try burger at ATL – One flew south

Million Mile Secrets

I was in ATL 2 weeks ago, but didn’t have time to check it out. It’s on my list for another time!

At this point the term “burger” is so ambiguous that it’s plenty appropriate to call this a burger.

Yes, The Counter does have the best burgers, it has been determined. I have one 5 miles from work. Sadly the location closest my home closed a few years back. Still shedding tears.

1/3lb market on Ciabatta. Mozzerrella and provolone. Basil pesto sauce. Lettuce blend, ripened red tomatoes, nicoise olives, and roasted red peppers. No menu needed. Parmesan fries.

Looks like you have your regular order! I wish there was one in Austin – I could do with the calories. 🙂

Calls it the best burger.

Isn’t really a burger.

Million Mile Secrets

Lol! It was the best “thing which closely resembles a burger and is as messy as eating a burger” I’ve had at an airport. 🙂
