Daraius:   When I started blogging in 2011, I was captivated by travel.  I shared a quote by St. Augustine:

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.

I’ve always liked St. Augustine, for his indulgent ways, love towards the poorest and weakest, and his famously glib prayer:   “Lord give me chastity and continence, but not yet.

I wanted to go as far away as I could, exploring, seeking, searching, eating, seeing, smelling, and tasting.  I wanted new experiences, new sensations, and new ways of living.  I felt alive when I traveled!

My Journey Continues
I’ve Always Loved Exploring and Seeking Out New Experiences and Adventures

And I traveled a lot.  Africa.  Iceland.  India.  Bali.  Sydney.  I’ve been extremely blessed and grateful for all the places I’ve visited, and memories I’ve made using miles and points!  I never thought it possible that a regular guy like me could travel to all these places for cheap.

In some ways a lot of that travel was an escape – especially after Emily and I separated.  An escape from being present with what life brought my way.  An escape from feeling sad, confused, angry, and frustrated.

Over the past few years, I’ve been exploring all the stuff which I never thought would interest me.  Stuff like yoga, meditation, empathy, and Tantra.

What does it mean to not hurry?  How can I be more comfortable with what arises (shitty as it may be), and to be present with it and let it flow?

I’d like to spend more time digging deeper into the stuff which excites me!  I want to be a coach – be it small and first-generation business owners, coaching folks who can’t afford regular coaching, or mediating.  And I want to spend more time with my family.

Making Memories With My Family Is Even More Important to Me Now

I’ve been tremendously lucky to have you amazing readers over the last 7 years.  I love reading your success stories.  And seeing pictures filled with joy and excitement on your faces.  Every day, I am very, very grateful to you for trusting Emily, our team, and me.  Consider each of you hugged!

I struck gold with the Million Mile Secrets team.  I can’t imagine a more awesomely amazing group of men and women!  They work hard, are smart and motivated, and have high integrity.

They’re extremely accomplished and don’t have to work at Million Mile Secrets if they don’t want to.  For example, one team member previously taught pilots how to fly planes, and another worked as an engineer at Boeing.  And yet they decide to be with Million Mile Secrets!

Most importantly, thank you Emily for motivating me to start writing the blog.  You stayed up late to proofread my posts.  You were patient and motivating.  Loving, caring, and kind.  Thank you for encouraging my dream and painstakingly working behind the scenes to make sure everything was running.

Oh, and for letting me take lots of pictures of you and publishing them on the internet for everyone to see.  You even filled in for me in comments and email! <cough, cough>

My Journey Continues
Emily and I Are Still Great Friends. And I’m SO Grateful for Her Patience, Encouragement, and Kindness

So, as difficult as this is, I will no longer be involved with the management and writing of Million Mile Secrets.  Our amazing team will continue to write excellent posts, and will showcase their unique way of having Big Travel with Small Money.

As for me, I am looking forward to more time to spend with family and friends, doing more of what inspires me, and discovering the mystery of myself.

And men go abroad to admire the heights of mountains, the mighty waves of the sea, the broad tides of rivers, the compass of the ocean, and the circuits of the stars, yet pass over the mystery of themselves without a thought. – St. Augustine

With all my love and gratitude,

Daraius

What Million Mile Secrets Means to Me

Emily:   Traveling is making memories with those you love.  It’s having experiences that are worth more than any fancy car or mansion.  It’s learning something new about yourself, and others.

It’s seeing how life can be lived in a completely different way than you ever imagined.  Traveling stretches you in ways you never knew.  It makes you a better person because you are more aware.

And when you come back to reality, your bed never felt nicer. 🙂

My Journey Continues
My First Trip With Miles and Points Was to India

The goals of Million Mile Secrets have always been the same and won’t ever change, no matter who is steering the ship.  It’s to create opportunities to travel for those who never thought it was possible.

We’ve changed peoples’ lives like I never imagined.  Tina, a Million Mile Secrets fan, took her 77-year-old mother to England to see her childhood home and meet her family there.  It had been ~40 years.

Another Million Mile Secrets fan named Keith booked a trip for himself and his wife (who suffers from chronic migraines) to celebrate their 30 year wedding anniversary.  There are countless stories like this that we hear from readers all the time.

Daraius started the blog to inspire people to live life to the fullest by traveling.  Now, he’s being inspired in different ways that have taken him away from the blog – so that he can live his own life to the fullest.

My Journey Continues
I’m Excited for Daraius to Explore New Avenues and Passions

He still cares very much for all of you and for the team running it.  He’s very grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such an amazing community.

I know that the blog will continue to grow and reach more people than it ever has.  We have an amazing team working behind the scenes who have always treated the blog “baby” as their own.  I look forward to you all getting to know our team better in the future.

Daraius – I know you will continue to do amazing things in your life because you always have.  You take care of others and want the best for them.  Every day, you strive to be the best version of yourself.

You will continue to change lives because you have certainly changed all of ours.  I’m excited to see where this next adventure takes you!

Daraius, I have followed this blog almost everyday since you launched it. As a result, I actually earned and used millions of miles from the secrets you shared. My family has traveled to so many places! I really appreciate the early days when you commented personally on every question and also answered my emails. Thank you for your kind heart that always came through each post, comment and email. If im honest, this is sad news… but only because of how good it’s been to journey with you. I hope you continue to grow and learn more about yourself in this next season. I personally follow Jesus, and therefore, pray that God would bless you richly as you transition to new things. Thanks for all of your generosity as you poured into creating Million Mile Secrets! Sincerely, Mike

@Mike – I appreciate you reading the blog everyday! And for your warm message. Like I wrote, I’m lucky to have such awesome readers. 🙂

Hey Daraius, what are you up to these days? I’ve lost interest in MMS.

Mike, I’m going to steal your post and send it to Daraius as well. I couldn’t have said it any better or more truthfully. Yes, Mr. D, you and Emily changed our lives..may you both be richly blessed as you seek insight and peace.
..and Mike, may Jesus continue to draw you in brother. 🙂

Lol! Thank You, Jan.

I bid you circle and arrows, my friend

Daraius, I’d like to personally thank you for all that you have done and given to the miles community. For years I have visited your site multiple times per week and read about new cards, analysis of different programs and great trip reports. You and Emily have helped me to take my family on many fulfilling trips with miles including South America twice, Mexico four or five times, Puerto Rico, Europe and dozens of free flights/hotels within the US.

Thank you for taking time to answer readers questions, and thank you for taking our comments and feedback seriously.

Best of luck to you in your next adventure. Based off of your innovative nature and hard work, I’m sure success will not be far off.

All the best.
Alex Cardiasmenos

I’ve been a reader since the beginning. I am so sad to hear this news. D & M – you both have helped us discover the joy of traveling. Though I do not comment much these days, you both are always in my thoughts. Your impact in our lives is more than you can imagine. I wish Daraius the best in whatever he does. And I hope the good work you both started continues.

Thanks, Diana, for the comment. I’m so happy that we had an impact on your life.

Darius, as your journey continues, please know that you will not be forgotten! From Bluebird to Bora Bora, from SWCP to flying my family of 14 to Hawaii on Christmas Day using a variety of frequent flyer miles, from seven continents to around the world 3 times, you will always be My Travel Guru Extraordinaire!

My husband and I thank you. My children and grandchildren thank you. My travel class students and some of my friends thank you. A myriad of readers and believers thank you!

We’ve enjoyed luxurious hotels around the world and airport lounges beyond belief. We’ve rejoiced in your travels and leaked tears of sadness at times of disappointment and divorce.
May you find peace and joy as your journey continues. Our loving Heavenly Father and creator of the universe is seeking you. Jesus is the way and He loves you dearly.

My goal is to see as much of God’s beautiful world as He allows me to. In those travels you will be remembered. Forever grateful to you, Darius, for showing me how travel is possible….♡ Mara

Thanks for sharing and it sounds like you’ve had a very fruitful travel path!

Daraius, I know this may feel like just piling on what has been said before, but it is important that you know how you have contributed to changing the trajectory of so many lives by helping your readers see places and experience things that otherwise would have been beyond even their wildest imagination. It was not just the information and advice. It was your enthusiasm and your generosity and your caring. You were also willing to share your joy and your sadness in a way that made us all more sensitive and human. To say “thank you” doesn’t put a dent into the sincere and deep appreciation I have for you. Whether real or metaphorical, I hope your upcoming journey brings you great joy and fulfillment – at least equivalent to what you have brought to all of your readers.

Thanks for the comment. I know Daraius and I both believe that life can be challenging–and by sharing and helping one another, we can all be stronger, more compassionate, and a more loving people.

Darius
Such sad news you are leaving the blog. You changed my life. My family is spread between Hawaii, Alaska and New York. Your blog has helped me to plan several family gatherings over the years that we would never have been able to afford. Thank you so much and may you be blessed on your journey.
