There are several hotel credit cards that will earn you free nights such as:

But it will depend on the city you’re in and which hotel brands are there.

For example, the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express card has a 25,000 point sign-up bonus after meeting minimum spending requirements.  If you and your partner both got this card, you’d have more than 50,000 Starwood points.  Depending on the category of the hotel, you’ll need 3,000 to 35,000 Starwood points for a free night.

You could use these points for stays in Rome, Barcelona, Paris, and many other European cities.

If you used your Starwood points for a stay at Le Meridien Etoile in Paris, you could get 5 free nights.

If you’re looking to stay local or by the college or university your child is attending, consider using Airbnb.
