I’ve wanted to go to Croatia for the last several years. I heard wonderful things about the country and how beautiful (and relatively affordable) it was compared to the rest of Europe. It’s located in Eastern Europe and is just a few hours from Italy.
Last year, my friends and I organized a group trip to visit Rovinj, a small coastal town on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. It’s a gorgeous town full of romance. Everything is stunning there, from the streets to the houses. The food is also excellent.
We went for a kizomba dance festival. Later in the trip report series, I will introduce you to kizomba and describe what an incredible dance it is! The dance festival was amazing and Croatia is definitely a place I want to return and spend more time exploring! The trip’s retail cost was ~$17,000 but I paid ~$900.

Walking Around the Old Town
Rovinj is a beautiful village by the Adriatic Sea. One day, we spent some time exploring the town.

We found a cute little boy selling seashells. He was an enterprising fellow because he quoted us a price over 2X higher than what we finally paid. 🙂

We continued winding around the streets. The main lanes were busy with tourists, but it wasn’t even close to as crowded as the touristy streets in Rome, Venice, and Paris.

We passed cobblestones streets with outdoor cafes and restaurants. It was the perfect spot to enjoy some refreshing local Croatian white wine and fresh seafood.

The town was so picturesque.

Soon we stopped to enjoy a glass of champagne at a restaurant by the sea. The views were spectacular.

We were in a rush to get back home, so we didn’t stay for dinner.

Another evening, we passed by another side of town.

The clouds hovering over the village inspired me to take this photo.

Rovinj is such a pretty town.

There are outdoor cafes to enjoy drinks with friends. I loved this place I found on my last evening in Rovinj.

The inside was very inviting, too!

The town is also gorgeous at night, when the moon and the soft glows of the street lamps light up the city.

Bottom Line
Rovinj is a gorgeous town, both during the day and in the evening. English is widely spoken, and the town itself is very safe. My friends and I were surprised to see that locals’ bikes were not even locked up!
The cobblestone streets and seaside location rivaled towns I’ve seen in the rest of Europe, for a fraction of the price.
