If you’ve been wondering where to ring in the New Year, you’re in luck!  We’ve compiled a list of the best places worldwide to go for this holiday.  I use points earned from credit cards to fly home for the holidays every year, and now I’m considering a New Year’s trip!

By signing up for the CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard®, you can fly to any of the below places with the help of miles!  This card is one of my favorites.  Right now, you can earn 70,000 American Airlines miles after spending ~$4,000 within the first four months of account opening.

This card has an annual fee of ~$99 (waived for the first 12 months).  And team member Meghan recently got the annual fee waived for a second year in a row.  And for those of you inspired to travel abroad after reading this article, this card has no foreign transaction fees!

6 Places to Kick off the New Year Using Your Citi American Airlines Business Card Sign-Up Bonus!

 1.   Berlin, Germany

Celebrate the New Year on the streets between the Bradenburg Gate and the Victory Column, where thousands from around the world come to party.  Bring in the New Year with live music, light and laser shows, and of course, fireworks.

If you fly to Europe, watch out for high British Airways fuel surcharges.  Flying in Business Class or First Class can make the added fees worth it for some.

2.   Sydney, Australia

How do fireworks over the Sydney Opera House sound?  Take a trip to the land down under, where they celebrate the New Year by the beach because it’s summer in Australia!  Be sure to pack your swimsuit!

From various cities in the US, you can fly to Sydney for as low as ~40,000 miles in off-peak times.  Taxes and fees were only ~$28, making flying there a steal!

3.   New York City

If you don’t feel like leaping over the pond to bring in the New Year, take a trip to New York City!  I’ve been plenty of times and still can’t get enough.  Thousands of people gather in Times Square for musical acts and dancing, all counting down to the big ball drop.  Even if you don’t want to fight the massive crowds in Times Square, you can still have a fantastic vacation in the city.

We found flights to New York City for as low as ~12,500 American Airlines miles from various cities in the U.S.

4.   Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

I visited Rio a few years ago during Carnaval, and had an amazing time.   In Rio, the big New Year’s celebration is held on Copacabana Beach, but there won’t be a shortage of things to do if you decide to venture away from the crowds.

We found one-way flights on American to Rio for as low as 30,000 American Airlines miles!

5.   St. Petersburg, Russia

Did you know Russians celebrate the New Year for almost two weeks afterward?  That gives me more incentive to book a trip here!  New Year’s Eve in St. Petersburg will be a beautiful one as you gather at the main plaza to watch the fireworks!  Indulge in some traditional food and tour some of the grand palaces in Russia’s second largest city.

If you’re flexible with your dates, I found round-trip flights to St. Petersburg for ~60,000 points.  That’s practically getting you halfway across the world by just signing up for this card.  Again, be careful of British Airways surcharges.  The cost to fly in coach may not be worth it for some.

6.   Beijing, China

In China, the New Year does not occur on January 1, but on February 16th!  I love the vibrant photos coming out of Beijing every New Year’s Eve.  Set yourself up for good fortune in 2019 by going to Beijing!  Indulge in some dim sum and see all the beautiful sights Beijing has to offer.

You can fly to Beijing from the US for around 35,000 American Airlines miles one-way in coach.
