Update:   The Chase Ink Bold card is no longer available for new sign-ups.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

The Chase Ink Plus and the Chase Ink Bold are among my favorite business cards because of the 50,000 Ultimate Rewards sign-up bonus after spending $5,000 within 3 months.

I love earning 5X Ultimate Rewards points (or 5% cash back) for my cable, internet, cell phone and web-hosting as well as earning 5X Ultimate Rewards for buying Amazon and Southwest gift cards at Office Supply stores.

The Chase Ink Plus & Ink Bold cards were originally introduced as MasterCards, but changed to Visa cards after the 60,000 point Small Business week promotion ended in June 2013.

Yes, you read that right!  If you applied for a Chase Ink Plus or Ink Bold card in the last 2 months, you almost certainly got the Visa version!

Visa Savings Edge

Via View From the Wing, you can ALSO earn cash back for purchases at certain shops via the Visa Savings Edge just by using your Chase Ink Plus and Chase Ink Bold Visa cards or your other Visa business credit or debit cards.

You Can Earn Cash Back in Addition to Ultimate Rewards Points With Your Ink Plus & Ink Bold

The extra cash back – up to 25% – with some retailers will automatically appear on your statement.

The highest discount of 25% was for iStock photo (even though the Visa Savings Edge site suggests that the maximum cash back is 15%).  To be clear, most of the “useful” discounts are far less than 25%, but something is better than nothing!

You can get even more cash back by shopping through a cash back portal such as Fat Wallet or Ebates or a shopping portal such as the Ultimate Rewards portal.

If you have the MasterCard version of the Chase Ink Plus or Ink Bold, you can enroll in a similar program from MasterCard (more to come soon).

What Are The Discounts?

You get discounts with certain retailers and some discounts are more valuable than others.

1.  Gas & Parts

1% discount at all Texaco and Chevron gas stations.  This is in addition to the 2X Ultimate Rewards points which you already get with the Chase Ink Plus or Chase Ink Bold for buying gas – so you can get up to 3% off gas.

You can get 2% cash back for purchases above $50 at AutoZone and up to 10% back for appliance parts from Sears.

2.   Hotels & Car Rentals

You get a 5% discount at Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Knights Inn, Super 8, Wingate, La Quinta, Baymont, Ramada, Microtel & Travelodge hotels.  The 5% discount is in addition to:

  • 2X Ultimate Rewards points for using the Ink Plus or Ink Bold for hotel stays
  • Any cash back which you get by going through a shopping portal
  • Any special rate, such as the AAA discounted rate

Note that you won’t get the 5% discount if you book via a third-party such as Expedia, but only if you book directly with the hotel.

I’ve stayed at some of these hotels and they are often the only choice in some parts of the US or the cheapest option for a room.

You also get a 4% discount for renting cars with National and Alamo.

3.   Dining & Shopping

You get 8% off Godiva chocolate, 2% off Buca di Beppo, 1% off Red Robin and a few other discounts.

4.   Computers & Electronics

The highlights to me include:

  • 5% at Lenovo & Sony
  • 2% cash back for purchases at TigerDirect (above $300)

5.   Business Services

Nothing seemed interesting to me, except perhaps the discount for ADT security alarms and iStockphoto.

Just registered my two Alaska BofA business cards! Thanks yetd again, Daraius & Emily!

How long it takes forVisa Savings Edge to post cash back? I already used it at staples but I don’t see anything.

Sadly, my Chase Ink isn’t eligible for this. There’s a link on the main page (linked to above) that asks for the first four numbers of your CC number to determine eligibility – it tells me mine isn’t eligible. Drats.

@Electroman – This only works with the Visa version. If you have the previous MasterCard version, you can apply for the Visa version to take part in this program.

@Sal,

You should be able to get the bonus twice if you held the MC version. It depends on how long you haven’t held the MC version for. If you’ve held the MC version whilst the Visa version was around you’ll be out of luck.

Just following up to see if anyone found out if we previously had the Master Card version, will we get the sign up bonus again if we get the Visa version?
