Earlier this week I wrote about a targeted AMEX Offer to get $200 back on combined purchases of $1,000+ with Delta.

And I mentioned that for similar previous AMEX offers, purchasing Delta gift cards usually qualified for the deal.  So if you didn’t have any upcoming Delta flights, you could purchase gift cards and use them for flights at a later date.

I also promised to update you on whether the deal worked for me.

Check Your AMEX Account to See If You Were Targeted for $200 Off $1000 in Delta Purchases. I’ll Explain How to Take Advantage of the Deal, Even If You Don’t Have a Flight in Mind Yet

And here’s what I found!

Buying Delta Gift Cards With My Qualified AMEX Card

I bought 4 $250 Delta gift cards online and got the $200 statement credit from AMEX

So if you qualified for this deal and registered your AMEX card, you CAN buy Delta gift cards now to use later.  And your purchase will qualify for the AMEX deal!

That’s good news for folks who don’t have a specific trip planned but want to take advantage of the savings.

It’s easy to buy Delta gift cards online.

You Can Decide Whether You Want Electronic or Physical Gift Cards

I chose to get physical gift cards in the mail.

There’s a ~$5 shipping fee.  But this isn’t a big deal, because I’ll be getting a $200 statement credit for using my registered AMEX card!

Spending ~$5 for Shipping Is Worth It to Save $200 on Your Delta Gift Card Purchase. But If You Choose Electronic Cards, You Won’t Pay Anything!

Shortly after making the purchase, I got an email from American Express confirming that I’d redeemed the offer!

I’ll Be on the Look Out for the $200 Statement Credit From American Express!

The process was simple.  So if you registered your targeted AMEX card but don’t have a specific trip in mind, I’d suggest buying Delta gift cards to lock-in the savings!

Are only the DL AMEX targeted for this offer? Do you know if any other AMEX’s are?

@Ben – This is a targeted offer so you’ll need to check to see if your AMEX cards qualify. You can read this post about syncing your AMEX cards for American Express Offers like this one: https://millionmilesecrets.com/2014/08/07/amex-sync/
