In an earlier post on searching for award flights on United.com, Charlie commented that it helps to change the number of default flights shown to 50 flights.
This is a very useful tip – especially when you search for your flights segment-by-segment – so I’m posting about it separately!

The Best Tip for Searching on United.com
Change your search results to show you 50 flights (instead of the default) when you search on United.com. You will see many more flight options when you do!
Step 1 – Click On “Advanced Search”
Fill in your departure city, destination and date.
Then click on “Advanced Search” at the bottom of the award search page.
Step 2 – Change “Number of Flights to Display” To “50”
Click on the drop-down box by the “Number of Flights to Display” and change it from the “Default” to “50”

You will see MANY more flight options this way!
Bottom Line
You’ll see a lot more flight options when you increase the number of award flights to display on United.com!
Looking forward to your hints

Hi Darius –
I’m trying to book ITO-HKG-TPE-LIH-SFO. I’ve found award seats for each segment, however when I string them together, it says there’s an error. If I make HKG-TPE an open jaw, it’ll price but the itinerary doesn’t have nearly as many options and costs more. Any insight would be appreciated!
@Peter – Try calling in, though the rules could have changed.
Thanks Darius =)
Dearest Darius,
Thank you for your website. I have dilemma & request guidance: I need to open a credit card under PRIMARY yet have the MileagePlus+ account holder a different name, and acquire the miles accordingly _OR_ a 3rd party card, ie: Any Chase Cards? That will allow _ME_ to collect/spend/bonus miles accordingly. This is basically because I fell hospital-grade ill in 2008 & coupled with the bad economy was the last victim of Universal Default. Now I am back on feet, but will be unable to be added on as anything BUT ‘authorized card user’ im sure, so family has been opening cards on my behalf when needed (last time was a year ago). I am now trying to rack in more UAL miles for TATL stuff. hope this explains the picture. I believe UALXplorer requires the names to match primary acct to primary ual =(
@Matthew – You don’t need to have the miles in your account, since anyone can book travel for you with the miles in their account.
