I write Million Mile Secrets primarily for folks in the US or those who can apply for the terrific US credit card offers.

European readers often ask if there are specific blogs or websites which focus on them, so here’s a list!

1.   Miles From Blighty

Mark writes Miles from Blighty which focuses on travel in Europe.

Bart Lapers writes with a focus on luxury travel on a budget, though he is more active on Twitter.

Bart also organizes the Travel Magic conference in Europe.  This year’s conference is on September 21, 2013 in Brussels and could be worth attending if you’re in Europe.

Good selection of sites, though there are many more in Europe.

Hey Darius, for Francophones my Grand Voyageur site can be found here There are only 2-3 French Frequent Flyer blogs that I know of, because there are so few interesting opportunities to gain miles outside of flying and the majority of readers use Flying Blue or Accor Le Club… The only interesting opportunity to earn status miles using the Amex FB card ended a few years ago.

Darius –

Thank you for the list. If you remember, I was one of the people that had emailed you about European miles & points. These blogs mainly focus on those in the UK. Any advice for those of us in the mainland where BA isn’t the best option and where beans are no where to be found? (And also where credit cards are rarely used, esp. if they do not have a pin & chip.) We have been here for a few weeks now, I am am sad to see that my mileage earning has been reduced to only about $2K a month .

As a side note – I haven’t tried it yet, but does anyone know if we can still apply for US-based cards with large sign up bonuses if we are having them shipped to Europe? We did keep a permanent address in the States at a family member’s, but it isn’t feasible to have them sent there and then mailed to Europe. Any ideas?

Hey Darius,

My wife and I are selling our place and planning to travel for about a year before we buy again in Europe.  I won’t burden you with my jaundiced prospective on the global economic future except to say that we’re going to store the proceeds of the sale of our home in precious metals while we’re traveling.  In making the purchase of these metals, which will be in what we consider a large quantify, though certainly not everyone would consider the amount large, we would like to earn mileage points.

At first I hoped to be able to make metal purchases over time, in increments, using credit cards, but apparently that is not going to work.  It may be possible, and this is why I’m writing to you, to make the purchases, also over time, using a Sun Trust debit card.  I reached this conclusion after reading posts by The Points Guy about paying taxes with the Sun Trust Sky-Miles card in the amount of $35,000 at a time, and thereby earning 1 point per dollar.

Sun Trust is located where we live.  We can open an account, deposit the proceeds of the sale into the account, and over the course of a short period of time make our metals purchases… I think…

Two questions, if I may:

One: Should we completely abandon the notion of earning a couple hundred thousand points in this way? (I realize you’re not a financial advisor, I would just like your opinion as someone who accumulates points, on whether or not Sun Trust would even permit the accumulation of points in such large amounts in this way.)

Two: Since we’ll be using the points while residing in Europe and traveling to the Far East, are Delta Sky-Miles even worth it, considering Delta’s attitude to frequent flyers, their relationship to their airline partners (Air France/KLM), the difficulty of using the points within Europe, their potential for devaluation, etc?

Thanks in advance for any insight…

Thanks Roxy for emailing me about this blog post and for plugging my site! You were a great seat mate!

Darius, I am a long time MMS and MP/FT reader. I’m in the process of starting my own blog as well which will focus on the European perspective of this game we play. Seeing that the coverage is quite limited in EMEA and language wise it is very anglophone centered, I am offering my readers content and responses in 6 (+2 others but limited) languages and responses. I was going to reach out to you when I launched but you beat me to the punch with this blog!

I will be launching soon and will be giving away a few prizes potentially worth a few thousand euros.

Stay tuned…
