Brrrr!  After the holidays, you’ll be ready to thaw out, especially if you live somewhere cold.  I’m in Dallas (what’s “winter”?), but being in a landlocked city sometimes has me craving the ocean!

I put together a fantasy weekend to Key West in January 2019 and priced it out.  Flights, hotel, and car rental cost nearly $1,500.  Or I could do what I normally do, and get it for a fraction of the price with points.

This trip doesn’t have to be a fantasy.  In fact, I could dip my toes in the Gulf of Mexico with ONE sign-up bonus.  With the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card, you’ll earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

In fact, this single sign-up bonus leaves me with points left over!  And if you’re a small business owner, I’ll bet you deserve a weekend to unwind.

I Thoroughly Examined This Picture and Didn’t See a Single Snowflake. Here’s How I Could Walk Through These Doors for a Weekend With the Chase Ink Business Preferred Sign-Up Bonus

I’ll share how I planned this trip.  Copy my template!

Our Review:   Incredible Bonus and Perks Make This the Very Best Card for Small Business Owners to Earn Chase Ultimate Rewards Points

With the Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, you’ll earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.  That’s worth at least $1,000 in travel when you redeem the points through the Chase Travel Portal.  You’ll also get:

  • 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points for every $1 you spend on travel, shipping purchases, internet, cable and phone services, advertising purchases made with social media sites, and search engines (up to a maximum of $150,000 in combined purchases per account anniversary year)
  • 1X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on all other purchases
  • Up to $600 in cell phone insurance when you pay your cell phone bill with the card
  • 25% bonus when you redeem points through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal

There’s a $95 annual fee, but the benefits make it more than reasonable!  Here’s our full review of the Ink Business Preferred card.

Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to Travel Partners Like Hyatt, Southwest, and United Airlines to Expand Your Vacation Value

You can also transfer your points to valuable travel partners like British Airways, United Airlines, and Hyatt.

This is a huge sign-up bonus.  And with a little planning (I searched for all of 15 minutes), you could be on your way to somewhere tropical in no time.  Here’s how I’d get myself down to Key West!

1.   Flights on American Airlines Worth $323 for 15,000 Points + ~$11

You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to British Airways instantly at a 1:1 ratio, and use them for coach award flights under 1,151 miles on American Airlines or Alaska Airlines for 7,500 British Airways Avios points.  No matter where you are, flying south for 1,000+ miles should get you somewhere warm!

I’d fly to Fort Lauderdale and rent a car for the weekend.  Know why?

I’ve Dreamed of Driving the Overseas Highway to Key West for So Long

It’s a dream of mine to drive the 7 miles of Overseas Highway linking the Florida Keys to the mainland.  So while Key West has its own airport, for this trip, I’d actually prefer to drive.  I imagine feeling the salty ocean air blowing in and seeing nothing but water all around me.

I Like Paying 15,000 British Airways Avios Points and ~$11 Much Better Than $323

I found non-stop flights on American Airlines I can book for 15,000 British Airways Avios points and ~$11.  Otherwise, these flights would cost $323!

2.   Car Rental Worth ~$120 for ~10,000 Points

Upon arrival at Fort Lauderdale, I’d head to the car rental counter and pick up my prepaid car rental before heading to the Overseas Highway.

I’d use ~10,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points to reserve a compact or midsize car for the weekend.

I Found Several Cars for ~10,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for the Weekend

Each point is worth 1.25 cents when you book travel through Chase.  You could save your points and pay the cash rates, because they’re pretty cheap.  Or you could go ahead and make it one less thing to worry about!

3.   Two Nights at the Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa Worth $1,000+ for 50,000 Points

The Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa is perched right at the waters’ edge.  On a map, it looks like it’s at the end of the world!

Yes, This Looks Like the Perfect Way to Spend a Weekend!

Folks give this hotel nearly all 5-star reviews.  And cash rates in January 2019 are high.  You’ll pay ~$1,037 for 2 nights.

Instead of Paying Over $1,000, Use 50,000 Hyatt Points for the Same Room!

This hotel costs 25,000 Hyatt points per night.  You could instantly transfer 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt to pay for the stay.

I’ve wanted to wander Key West for a long time.  A Florida mini road trip with 2 nights on the ocean sounds fantastic right about now!

But Wait – That’s Only 75,000 Points!

So far, the cash price for this vacation getaway would be ~$1,480 ($323 for flights, $120 for car rental, and $1,307 for hotel nights).

And the total points price is 75,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points (15,000 points for flights, ~10,000 points for car rental, and 50,000 points for hotel nights).

But after you complete the minimum spending, you’ll have at least 85,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points (and more if you spend in the bonus categories).

So here’s where you can get creative.  You could earn more points and:

  • Bring a partner or friend with you – double the fun!
  • Upgrade to a bigger car, just because
  • Stay an extra night and make it a long weekend

Or you could save them for another weekend adventure.

It’s easily possible to get $1,500 worth of travel from the sign-up offer on the Ink Business Preferred Credit Card.  That’s why we call it our #1 small business credit card!

A Few Things to Keep in Mind About the Ink Business Preferred

The Ink Business Preferred Credit Card is intended for small business owners.  That doesn’t mean you have to be an officer of a multi-million dollar company.  You just need to be aiming to make some sort of profit.

In fact, you could already be a business owner and not realize it!  Nearly every Million Mile Secrets team member qualified for a Chase Ink card because of their side gigs, like reselling on eBay, running an Airbnb, or managing vacation rentals.

My Small Business Activities Include Freelance Writing and Hosting on Airbnb. I Love My Chase Ink Card! Just Remember the 5/24 Rule

Finally, Chase will NOT approve you for the Ink Business Preferred if you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting other Chase business cards and business cards from most other banks) in the past 24 months.  Many people refer to this as the “5/24 rule.”

If you qualify to apply, here’s how to complete a Chase business card application.

Bottom Line

The components are all here:  Flights, hotel, even car rental.  A weekend in Key West would cost nearly $1,500 out-of-pocket.  Or I could use the sign-up bonus of 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after meeting minimum spending with the Ink Business Preferred Credit Card to pay just ~$11.

And I’d even have 10,000+ points left over!  My only expenses would be getting to my home airport, gas, food, and activities.  And tropical drinks with those little umbrellas.

Copy my playbook to fly somewhere warm and treat yourself to a luxurious hotel stay, especially if it’s freezing cold where you are!
