Until August 20, 2016, you can earn 70,000 bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you sign-up in-branch for the Chase Ink Plus and spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.
If you don’t have a Chase branch nearby, or prefer to apply online, my link for the Chase Ink Plus has a 60,000 point bonus after meeting the same minimum spending requirement.
This is a great offer because with 75,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points (remember you earn points when meeting the minimum spending!) is enough for 3 one-way tickets in Business Class, 3 round-trip coach tickets, or 7 one-way short-haul coach tickets on United Airlines within the mainland US and Canada!
I’ll show you how to make the most of the bonus for domestic travel on United Airlines!
About the Chase Ink Plus Card
With the current in-branch offer for the Chase Ink Plus card, you’ll earn 70,000 bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
And you’ll get:
- 5 points per $1 on the first $50,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on cellular phone, landline, internet and cable TV services each account anniversary year
- 2 points per $1 on the first $50,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and hotel accommodations when purchased directly with the hotel each account anniversary year
- 1 point per $1 on all other purchases – with no limit to the amount you can earn
- No foreign transaction fees
The $95 annual fee is NOT waived for the first year. But it’s well worth it to earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points, because they’re so flexible.
If you’re new to our hobby and have a small business, the Ink Plus is a great card to start with! That’s because Chase now has stricter approval rules. So if you’ve opened ~5 or more credit cards from any bank (excluding certain business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for most Chase cards.
And you don’t have to run big corporation to qualify for a business credit card. You may qualify with even a very small business if you’ve got plans to grow your profits.
Using Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for Big Domestic Travel on United Airlines
You can transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to United Airlines at a 1:1 ratio.
What can you do with 75,000 United Airlines miles? Here are ideas!
3 Round-Trip Coach Tickets in the Continental US & Canada
United Airlines round-trip domestic saver award tickets start at 25,000 United Airlines miles. So you could get 3 round-trip coach flights with the Chase Ink Plus sign-up bonus and points from meeting minimum spending (3 X 25,000 = 75,000 miles).
For 75,000 United Airlines miles, you and 2 friends or family members could visit Yellowstone National Park.
I looked for sample fares from Newark to Cody, Wyoming, in September 2016. The lowest round-trip cash price is ~$383 per person, or as high as ~$683.
So you’d pay at least $1,149 for 3 round-trip tickets. Or over $2,000 on expensive travel dates.
Or you could use 25,000 miles per person plus ~$11 in taxes round-trip.
Using United Airlines miles, you’d save at least $372 per person, or $1,116 for 3 passengers!
7 One-Way Coach Flights Under 700 Miles
If your flight is less than 700 miles, you’ll pay 10,000 United Airlines miles one-way (20,000 United Airlines miles round-trip) for a coach award ticket. That’s a great deal!
With the Chase Ink Plus sign-up bonus, you’ll have enough for 7 one-way short-haul coach award ticket on United Airlines (7 x 10,000 = 70,000 miles).
To see destinations that are within a 700-mile radius of your home airport, check the Wandering Aramean’s United Airlines 700 Mile Radius map.
For example, you could fly from Los Angeles or San Francisco to Salt Lake City for a ski vacation and pay only 10,000 United Airlines miles each way.
During peak season, these flights can be very expensive. Here’s the cash cost of the exact same flight:
If you can redeem your United Airlines miles for short-haul tickets that cost ~$300, you could get ~$2,100 worth of flights (7 x $300) from the Chase Ink Plus sign-up bonus!
3 One-Way Domestic Business Class Tickets
Saver level Business Class tickets within the continental US and Canada cost 25,000 United Airlines miles.
So you could transfer 75,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points from the Chase Ink Plus to United Airlines for 3 one-way Business / First Class tickets (3 x 25,000 miles = 75,000).
In this example, the same Business Class flight from Houston to Washington, DC, would cost $688 if you paid cash.
So again, you could easily get over $2,000 worth of flights if you used your Chase Ink Plus sign-up bonus for 3 Business Class tickets.
It could be worth splurging on Business Class if you’re traveling on long flights or celebrating a special occasion. But for short flights, I’d rather save my miles and fly coach!
You can get a lot of Big Domestic Travel with Small Money on United Airlines with the Chase Ink Plus 70,000 point in-branch offer.
Once you meet the minimum spending requirement of $5,000 in purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account, you’ll have at least 75,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
If you transferred the points to United Airlines, you’d have enough miles for:
- 3 round-trip domestic coach tickets
- 7 one-way short-haul (under 700 miles) domestic coach tickets
- 3 one-way domestic Business Class tickets
Depending on how you redeem the miles, the Chase Ink Plus sign-up bonus could be enough for over $2,000 worth of domestic travel!
Remember, if you’re not near a Chase branch (or prefer online applications), you’ll earn 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points with my link for the Chase Ink Plus after meeting the same minimum spending requirement.
