When you apply for the AMEX Business Platinum, you can earn:
- 50,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after you spend $10,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.
- 50,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after you spend an additional $15,000 on qualifying purchases within the same timeframe
So between the welcome bonus and points you earn from minimum spending, you’ll have at least 125,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points (100,000 point total bonus + at least 25,000 minimum spending points).
1. Get Nearly $1,900 Worth of Airfare Using Pay With Points
- 35% of your points back for ALL First Class or Business Class flights booked through the AMEX travel portal
- 35% of your points back for all flights, including coach tickets, booked with your selected airline through the AMEX travel portal
The below table shows how earning 125,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points can get you nearly $1,900 worth of airfare.
|Points||Value of Airfare Through the AMEX Travel Portal||35% Points Rebate Amount|
|95,000 AMEX Membership Rewards Points||$950||33,250 AMEX Membership Rewards points|
|33,250 AMEX Membership Rewards points||~$332||~11,637 AMEX Membership Rewards points|
|~11,637 AMEX Membership Rewards points||~$116||~4,073 AMEX Membership Rewards points|
This example assumes you use all 125,000 points for one flight and the rebate points for subsequent flights. Of course, there are many redemption options and you’re not required to use all of your points at once.
Note: You must redeem at least 5,000 points to use Pay With Points. And keep in mind, getting 35% of your AMEX Membership Rewards points back is automatic. But you’ll have to wait 8 to 10 weeks to see them in your account.
2. Book Multiple Award Flights to Hawaii (Worth $2,000+)
Alaska Airlines and Singapore Airlines are now partners. This means you can transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points to Singapore Airlines. Then, book coach award flights on Alaska Airlines to Hawaii from West Coast cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle for only 12,000 Singapore Airlines miles!
After meeting the minimum spending requirements for the AMEX Business Platinum card, you’ll have enough points to book 5 round-trip flights to Hawaii!
These same flights could easily cost $2,000+ total if you pay cash. Redeeming points for this type of award makes the card’s welcome bonus extremely valuable!
3. Round-Trip Coach or Business Class Award Flight to Europe ($1,000 to $7,500+ Worth of Value)
You can NOT book a one-way award flight with ANA. Round-trip award flights from the US to Europe cost:
- 55,000 ANA miles in coach
- 88,000 ANA miles in Business Class
So getting the Business Platinum card and completing the minimum spending means you’ll have more than enough for 2 round-trip coach flights or 1 Business Class award flight to Europe.
Using points for a round-trip coach award flight to Europe can easily be worth $1,000. And Business Class seats on certain routes can sell for more than $7,500! So using points to book luxurious Business Class seats can get you tremendous value!
4. Multiple Round-Trip Award Tickets Flight to Ireland ($2,000+ Worth of Value)
You can transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points to British Airways. Then, redeem points for an award flight to Dublin on partner airline Aer Lingus.
Aer Lingus uses a distance based award chart. You can book round-trip award flights to Dublin from these 7 US cities for 26,000 British Airways Avios points in coach during the off-season:
- New York (JFK)
- Washington, DC
These flights typically sell for at least $500. So you can use the points from the AMEX Business Platinum welcome bonus to get at least 4 round-trip award tickets, or $2,000+ worth of travel!
Off-peak times with Aer Lingus include almost 8 months out of the year. And during peak travel times, you’ll pay 40,000 British Airways Avios points for a round-trip flight. This is still a great travel deal because United Airlines charges 60,000 miles for a similar award flight.
5. ~$1,400 Worth of JetBlue Flights
Even with a less favorable transfer ratio (5:4), transferring AMEX Membership Rewards points to JetBlue can still be worthwhile for folks looking to save on airfare!
JetBlue does not have an award chart like most airlines. Instead, the number of points you’ll pay for an award flight is tied to the cash price of the flight. JetBlue points are worth an average of ~1.4 cents per point.
Because of the 5:4 transfer ratio, you could convert 125,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points to 100,000 JetBlue points. These points are worth ~$1,400 in JetBlue airfare (100,000 points X 1.4 cents per point).
Lots of folks, including team members Scott and Keith, love to fly JetBlue. Because the airline has free in-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi. And JetBlue offers the most legroom in coach compared to other US airlines.
The AMEX Business Platinum card is a great choice for folks looking to get Big Travel with Small Money!
With 19 direct AMEX travel partners, there are lots of ways you can use points to save on travel! For example, folks on the West Coast can transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points to Singapore Airlines. Then, book round-trip coach award flights on Alaska Airlines to Hawaii for only 24,000 Singapore Airlines miles!
Business Platinum cardholders can also use the Pay With Points perk for great deals on airfare through the AMEX travel portal. This can be a hassle free way to get nearly $1,900 worth of airfare using 125,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points linked to the Business Platinum card.
