The new Hilton Double Up promotion is live!  And it looks a little familiar.

Via One Mile at a Time, you can now complete your Hilton Double Up Promotion registration, valid until December 31, 2016.  And it offers the same earning opportunity as the Summer Hilton promotion.  You can earn twice the number of base points you’d normally earn on a hotel stay!

Hilton Double Up Promotion Registration
Every Hotel in the Hilton Portfolio Is Participating in This Promotion!

I’ll give you the details, and tell you if this is a good deal!

The Hilton Double Up with Double Points promotion is valid for stays between September 1, 2016, and December 31, 2016.  Here are the details:

  • ANY hotel in the Hilton Portfolio qualifies for this promotion
  • You must register before you complete your stay within the promotion period
  • “Double points” applies only to Base Points earned
  • There is no limit on points you can earn
  • There are restrictions on the amount of Base Points that can be earned on a single stay at certain brands
  • Bonus points earned on Base Points do not count toward tier qualification

Hilton hotels include Conrad, Canopy, Curio, DoubleTreeEmbassy SuitesHampton InnHiltonHilton Garden Inn, Hilton Grand Vacations, Home2Suites, Homewood Suites, Tru, and Waldorf Astoria brand hotels.

Is the Hilton Double Up Promotion a Good Deal?

This is a nice bonus, but it’s NOT as generous as Hilton makes it sound in the title.

That’s because this promotion will NOT actually double all the points you’ll earn at Hilton hotels.  Hilton will only double the number of base points you earn for your stay (10 points per $1).

Extra points you earn from having elite status, or holding a Hilton co-branded credit card, will NOT be doubled.

Only Hilton Base Points Are Doubled

For example, if you use your Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express to pay for your reservation, you will earn an extra 12 points per $1 for your stay in addition to 10 base points per $1.  And if you choose Hilton Points & Points, you’ll earn another 5 points per $1.  That’s a return of 27 points per $1.

Registering for the Hilton Double Up With Double Points Promotion will NOT double your earnings to 54 points per $1.

Instead, it will only double the base points you earn, giving you a return of 37 points per $1 (12 points per $1 for using AMEX Hilton Honors Surpass + 20 base points per $1, doubled from promotion + 5 points per $1 for choosing Hilton Points & Points = 37 points per $1).

That’s still an impressive earning rate, but not as exciting as the promotion suggests!

Should You Switch Your Stays to Hilton Because of the Double Up Promotion?

I don’t think it’s worth adjusting your travel plans to take advantage of this promotion.  Because it doesn’t exceed other great hotel promotions, like the IHG Accelerate Fall promotion, where folks have been targeted to earn up to 80,000 IHG points!

Bottom Line on the Hilton Double Up Promotion

Hilton Double Up Promotion Registration is now live.

This is a decent bonus offered by Hilton.  But it’s NOT worth changing your plans for.

Hilton will only double the base points you earn for each stay.  So the offer doesn’t stand out from other hotel promotions.

But it’s still a good idea to register for Hilton Double Up, in case you find yourself checking into a Hilton hotel anyway!
