Via One Mile at a Time, Hilton is selling points at a big discount!
Through October 5, 2017, you’ll get a 50% discount when you buy 5,000+ Hilton points. If you need Hilton points for an expensive stay or want to top-off your account for a particular award, this could be a nice deal!
Half-Off Hilton Points
Normally, Hilton sells points for 1 cent each in 1,000-point increments. So 1,000 Hilton points usually costs $10. But with this 50% discount, each point will cost just 0.5 cents when you buy 5,000+ points.
The maximum number of Hilton points you can buy per calendar year is 80,000 Hilton points. But if your travel buddies take advantage of this deal, y’all can combine points for free!
Is This Promotion Worth It?
This could be a great way for folks to top-off their Hilton account for a certain award stay. Or even for a discounted stay at an otherwise pricey hotel.
Depending on which hotel you stay at, you can get much more (or less!) value than 0.5 cents per point!
For example, I found a night at the Hilton Tokyo Bay for $113 per night or 31,000 Hilton points. Meaning if you bought an award night, you’d get a value of ~0.36 cents per point ($113 room rate / 31,000 points). So redeeming points you’ve bought for 0.5 cents each would NOT be a good value at this hotel.
But the Waldorf Hilton, London, sells rooms for $329 per night, which you can reserve for 55,000 Hilton points. That’s a value of ~0.6 cents per point ($329 room rate / 55,000 points). So your stay will be cheaper if you buy points for 0.5 cents each and use them for free nights at this hotel.
Just make sure the nights you want are available before you buy!
Want More Hilton Points?
There are plenty of ways to earn Hilton points. You can sign-up for the no-annual-fee Hilton Honors™ Card from American Express, which comes with up to 75,000 Hilton points after meeting tiered minimum spending requirements. Or the Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express, which comes with 100,000 Hilton points after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
Note: These are both limited time increased offers that end October 4, 2017.
Or, you can transfer other miles & points to Hilton. AMEX Membership Rewards points, Virgin Atlantic miles, and Hawaiian Airlines miles transfer to Hilton at a 2:3 ratio.
Until October 5, 2017, you can buy Hilton points for 50% off when you buy 5,000 points or more.
As always, do the math to see if the promotion makes sense for you. Because purchasing points for an award stay could potentially cost less compared to the actual cost of a room night.
