INSIDER SECRET: Amex will only allow you to earn the intro bonus on a card once per lifetime, but the business and personal versions of the Delta cards count as different products. So if you’ve had one, you can still qualify for the other.

Did you know you could book Delta flights to Hawaii for less than $12 out-of-pocket?

By taking advantage of the limited-time Delta credit card offer (ends on July 2, 2019), you’ll have enough miles to cover the cost of your round-trip airfare.

Get Delta Flights to Hawaii With These Limited-Time Delta Credit Card Offers

It’s a terrific time to consider applying for one of these Amex Delta cards, because you can take advantage of these increased welcome bonuses, many of which are the highest public offers I’ve ever seen:

Earning miles is the first step. Then you’ll want to redeem all those miles. Here are a few examples of how you can redeem miles for Delta flights to Hawaii.

1. Fly Up to Three People From the West Coast to Hawaii With One Delta Card Bonus

Delta doesn’t have an award chart, so the price of flights in miles will fluctuate. But from late summer 2019 through the fall I found flights from all the major West Coast cities (Seattle, Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco) to Hawaii for 23,000-29,000 miles round-trip +$11.20 in taxes in Basic Economy.

To take advantage of these deals you’ll have to travel on less popular days of the week –usually flying out on a day other than Friday or Sunday. But with a 75,000- or 80,000-mile bonus you could fly three people to Hawaii and back.

2. Book an Award Flight From the East Coast to Hawaii to Get Even More Value for Your Miles

I found that the cheapest award flights from the East Coast (Atlanta and New York) in the fall of 2019 ranged from 35,000 to 45,000 miles, plus $11.20 in taxes for a round-trip ticket.

The cash cost of flights around these dates ranges from ~$800 to $1,200+. To be sure you’re getting the best deal, it’s always a good idea to quickly do some calculations. For example, it wouldn’t be a good idea to redeem 75,000 Delta miles for a seat that’s selling for $700 or less.  Because this means you’re getting less than 1 cent per mile ($700 cash cost of flight/75,000 miles).  You’d be better off using Pay With Miles to get at least 1 cent per mile in value and earn Delta miles on the flight at the same time.

But I saw seats selling for $900+ that you can book for only 45,000 Delta miles. That’s a solid deal. You’d be getting 2 cents per mile in value ($900 cash cost of flight 45,000 miles).

3. Prefer Business Class Travel to Hawaii?

The cheapest one-way business-class award flights I found to Hawaii from the East Coast started at 61,000-75,000 miles and from the West Coast for only 44,000-55,000 miles.

For example, I found several round-trip business-class award seats from Los Angeles to Maui in April/May 2020 for 44,000 Delta miles plus $11.20 in taxes.

Remember, you can use Delta miles to book one-way award flights. So if you don’t have enough miles for a round-trip business-class flight, you can book separate reservations each way.

For example, you can fly to Hawaii in business class and return in coach, or vice versa. Or you can pay cash for one leg and redeem miles for the other. Collecting miles gives you flexibility to design your itinerary the way you want it.

Need More Delta Miles?

Earning a welcome bonus with the limited-time Amex Delta offers might be all you need to travel to a destination in Mexico or the Caribbean. But if you’re looking to use miles for other flights, you might look for more ways to earn extra Delta miles, which never expire.

Amex limits you to earning the intro bonus on a specific credit card to once per lifetime. But the personal and small business versions of each card, and the Gold, Platinum and Reserve versions, are each considered different products. So if you’ve had the personal version, you’re still eligible for the business version. Or if you’ve had the Gold, you can still earn the bonus on the Platinum or Reserve.

For extra Delta miles, you can also transfer Amex Membership Rewards points to Delta at a 1:1 ratio. Keep in mind you’ll pay a small excise fee of 0.06 cents per point (up to a maximum of $99). Or transfer Marriott points to Delta at a ratio of 3:1. When you transfer in increments of 60,000 Marriott points, you’ll get a bonus of 5,000 Delta miles.

Bottom Line

You can easily save money on flights to Hawaii by earning a lucrative welcome bonus with any of these limited-time Amex Delta credit card offers:

Becoming an Amex Delta cardholder also gives you options for using your miles. You can book cheap basic economy flights or splurge and fly in business class. And with any of the cards listed above you’ll get priority boarding and a free checked bag for you and up to eight companions traveling on the same reservation.
