INSIDER SECRET: It’s best to pair the no-annual-fee Chase Freedom card with certain other Ultimate Rewards points earning cards to redeem for travel.
The Chase Freedom® is a great card because it lets you earn valuable Chase Ultimate Rewards points with no annual fee, but that’s not all. The Chase Freedom card also comes with valuable benefits like purchase protection and extended warranty.

Our review of the Chase Freedom
With the Chase Freedom, you can earn $150 (15,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points) after you spend $500 on purchases in your first three months from account opening. But one of the best perks of the Chase Freedom card is being able to earn 5% back (5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points) on up to $1,500 in spending in rotating categories each quarter when you activate the bonus.
If you make the most of this bonus spending, you’ll earn $75 cash back each quarter ($1,500 x 5%), for a total of $300 cash back (or 30,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points) per year. If you have an annual fee Ultimate Rewards points earning card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you can transfer the points you earn with the Chase Freedom to your Sapphire Preferred account and your points will be worth 1.25 cents each toward travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal — so that extra $300 in cash back each year could be used to pay for $375 in flights, rental cars, or hotels.
In addition to these features, the Chase Freedom comes with the following benefits:
When you use the Chase Freedom to purchase an item, the card will extend the time period of a US manufacturer’s warranty by an additional year on eligible warranties of three years or less. That lets you avoid purchasing additional warranties when making big-ticket purchases.
The Chase Freedom offers protection against damage or theft for up to 120 days on new purchases, up to $500 per claim and $50,000 per account. If you’re planning a large purchase, it’s always wise to use a card that offers this kind of protection.
Chase will provide unlimited free access to your credit score as well as automatically enrolling you in alerts that can help you identify fraud.
‘Zero Liability’ Protection
With this benefit, you won’t be held responsible for unauthorized charges made with your card or account information, so you’ll have peace of mind while carrying and using your card wherever you might be. This can save you lots of hassle in the unfortunate event that your card gets compromised.
Rental Car Insurance
You’ll get secondary rental insurance when you pay for a car rental using your Chase Freedom.
Just remember, if you’ve opened 5 or more credit cards from ANY bank in the past 24 months (excluding certain small business cards and Chase business cards), you’re not likely to be approved. You’ll have to wait until you are back under 5 cards opened in the past 24 months before applying for the Chase Freedom.
