For some folks in our hobby, earning cash back instead of miles and points is a big part of their credit card strategy.  You can redeem cash back for anything, not just travel, after all!

Alas, some of the best cash back credit cards add foreign transaction fees when you use your card overseas.  And those fees can pretty much erase any rewards you earn from the card – not good!

However, there are a handful of cash back credit cards that don’t add these junk fees when you’re abroad.  Our top picks are:

Here’s a quick overview of the best cash back credit cards with no foreign transaction fees you can use with confidence on your next trip outside the US.

Miles and points are super valuable, but cash back credit cards are also an important part of every traveler’s arsenal.  Unfortunately, there aren’t as many strictly cash back cards that waive foreign transaction fees compared to miles and points cards.

Some of these cards even offer hefty bonuses from spending in certain categories (even abroad) or valuable perks that can save you money.  Here are our favorites.

1.   Capital One Savor Cards

The Capital One Savor cards have been wildly popular with folks in our hobby, and it’s easy to see why.  They come with excellent bonus spending categories that are handy for travelers, like dining and entertainment.  And you’ll never pay foreign transaction fees with Capital One cards.

The Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards Credit Card is the most exciting of the two.  Team member Joseph calls it “the girl next door he’s been overlooking.”  It comes with a substantial welcome bonus:   You’ll earn a $500 cash bonus after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

You can do well both at home and overseas with the Capital One Savor bonus categories.  You’ll earn:

You Can Earn a Whopping 4% Cash Back on Dining With the Capital One Savor, Even at the Pubs in Dublin

The Capital One Savor has a $95 annual fee, but it’s waived the first year.  So you can try the card out without any expense and decide if it’s worth keeping.

If you’re looking for a card with no annual fee (ever) for keeping long term, the Capital One® SavorOne℠ Cash Rewards Credit Card is a good bet.  The welcome bonus isn’t as hefty (you’ll earn a $150 cash bonus after spending $500 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening) but the bonus categories are still decent:

  • 3% cash back on dining and entertainment
  • 2% cash back at grocery stores
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

Essentially, the Capital One Savor One earns 1% less on dining and entertainment and has a lower sign-up bonus.  But there’s no annual fee to worry about or a big spending requirement.

Employee cards are free (and you’ll get to keep the rewards from their spending).

Scott’s had the Capital One Quicksilver for years – it’s one of his oldest cards.  He’s kept it all this time because it increases the average age of his accounts and helps his credit score.  He also likes that he can request his cash back, any time, with no minimum redemption amount.
