For the Starwood Preferred Guest from American Express personal and small business cards, are you allowed to merge all the points into 1 Starwood account number?

Yes.  If you have separate Starwood Preferred Guest accounts for your American Express Starwood Preferred Guest personal and small business cards, there’s a way to combine them.

Plus, friends and family (who have been living at your address for at least the last 30 days) can add their Starwood points to your account for free!

A lot of folks are applying for the AMEX Starwood personal and small business cards because they each offer an increased sign-up bonus of 30,000 Starwood points when you complete the minimum spending.

This is the highest offer I’ve ever seen for these cards, and for the last several years it’s only come around once a year.

When you complete the application for each card, there’s a space to enter your Starwood number.  If you enter this information when you apply, the points from both cards will go into the same account.

Enter Your Starwood Number on Your Application and the Points You Earn From the AMEX Starwood Personal and Small Business Cards Will Go Into the Same Account

But if you’re like Larry and don’t have your Starwood number handy or aren’t a member when you apply, an account will be created for you.  And when you apply for 2 cards, you’ll wind up with 2 different accounts.

Luckily, this is easy to fix.  Here’s how:

Step 1 – Log-in & Click Your Name

Log into 1 of your Starwood accounts and click on your name.  Select “My Profile” from the dropdown menu.
Sign Into Your Starwood Account and Select Your Name at the Top of the Page

Step 2 – Click on Your Profile and Combine Accounts

Go to your Starwood profile.

Select “My Profile” From the Drop Down Menu

Then begin combining your accounts.

Click “Combine Accounts”

Step 3 – Complete the Form

Enter your account information.

Note: Before You Can Combine Your Separate Accounts, the Name and Address Must Match-Up Exactly
The terms & conditions say the names and addresses have to match up letter-for-letter.  So if you have 1 account with the name Larry and the other with the name Lawrence, you’ll have to call Starwood to do the merge.

You Can Also Combine Points With Friends & Family

And if Larry needs more Starwood points for an award stay, a friend or family member can transfer points to his account.

Most airline and hotel loyalty programs charge a fee for you to share points with friends and family.  But with Starwood, you can transfer points between accounts for free, as long as you have the same address on your accounts for at least 30 days.

However, I do NOT recommend changing addresses just to transfer points.  That’s because you could lose the points in your account if Starwood finds out you did that to get around their rules.

You can transfer points by calling Starwood at 888-625-4988.  Or online by logging into your account and clicking this link.  Next, click “Give Points.”

Share Your Starwood Points With Friends or Family Who Live With You for Free!

Then click “Transfer Starwood Points” and enter the information for the account where you’d like to send your Starwood points.

Select “Transfer Starpoints” to View the Transfer Form

The form will pop-up for you to complete.

It Could Take Up to 5 Business Days to Complete the Transfer

But in my experience, it only takes a few days.

Bottom Line

If you’ve recently signed-up for the American Express Starwood personal and small business cards to take advantage of the increased bonus of 30,000 points when you complete the minimum spending, you may have 2 Starwood accounts.

As long as the name and address are the same, you can easily merge these accounts online.

And if you need more Starwood points to complete an award booking, you can share with friends or family (with the same address for at least 30 days) for free!
