Million Mile Secrets reader Kat commented:
So if I’m understanding this correctly, then I can’t use miles to pay for a travel expense that I’ve already paid off with cash on a previous statement, correct? Even though it says that you can use Barclaycard miles to pay for travel expenses within the last 120 days.
How soon after you hit the minimum spend do the 40,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles become available to use?
Although Kat has already paid her statement balance in full she can still use her Arrival miles as a statement credit. That’s because they will post against future charges.
Barclaycard Arrival Plus
Kat gets 40,000 Arrival miles ($400 in credits on $100+ travel purchases, plus $20 because you 5% of your miles back) after spending $3,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening the account.
She also gets:
- 2X Arrival miles on all purchases
- No foreign transaction fees
- $89 annual fee waived the 1st year
And Barclaycard is pretty fast about posting the sign-up bonus because mine posted almost immediately after finishing the minimum spending!
Note: Arrival “miles” can NOT be transferred to airlines! They’re points Kat can use for statement credits against travel expenses.
Here’s a video that will show Kat how to redeem her miles.
Using Arrival Miles As a Statement Credit
Kat can redeem her Arrival miles against $100+ travel expenses within the last 90 days.
Although Barclaycard says the statement credits appear within 5 to 7 business days, it’s been my experience that they post within 1 to 2 days.
Let’s suppose Kat paid her Barclaycard Arrival Plus bill on February 20, 2015, which included a $100 airline ticket. She has 90 days (from the date she bought the airline ticket) to earn and redeem 10,000 Arrival miles against that plane ticket.
This will reduce her upcoming bill by $100. And she gets 500 Arrival miles back because she gets 5% of redeemed miles back.
Travel purchases within 90 days that Kat redeems Arrival miles for will be credited against her next statement.
So it’s better if Kat redeems her Arrival miles immediately so that she can get the statement credits before the bill is due.
It can take 5 to 7 business days to post, but mine have posted within 1 to 2 days.
