Dear Daraius,

I need to accumulate 500,000 Marriott points.  Can I get a sign-up bonus from both the personal and business card versions of the Chase Marriott Visa card?  I don’t want to burn all my Chase Ultimate Rewards points for this award stay I have booked at the Ritz-Carlton in Grand Cayman.

John Phillips Could Use the 140,000 Marriott Points From the Marriott Rewards Premier Personal and Business Cards to Stay at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman

John Phillips wants to know if he can get both the personal and business version of the Marriott Rewards Premier card.  John Phillips CAN get a 70,000 Marriott point sign-up bonus on the personal Marriott Rewards Premier card and the business Marriott Rewards Premier card after completing the minimum spending.

He could also consider the Ritz Carlton cards for 140,000 points.

John Phillips can get a 70,000 Marriott point sign-up bonus on the Marriott Rewards Premier personal and business cards.

He would get 1 free night in a Category 1 to 4 Marriott hotel upon approval and 70,000 Marriott points after spending $1,000 in 3 months on the Marriott Rewards Premier personal card.  He’ll also get 1 free night in a Category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel each card anniversary.

And John Phillips can also get 1 free night in a Category 1 to 4 Marriott hotel upon approval and 70,000 Marriott points when he spends $2,000 in 3 months on the Marriott Rewards Premier business card.  And he’ll get 1 free night in a Category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel each card anniversary.

Different Card Products

John can get the sign-up bonus on both the personal and business version of the Marriott Rewards Premier card because they are considered different card products.

So he can get the sign-up bonus on the Marriott Rewards Premier personal and Marriott Rewards Premier business card.

Bottom Line

John could get the sign-up bonus for both the Marriott Rewards Premier personal card and the Marriott Rewards Premier business card.  That’s because they’re considered to be different credit cards.

What’s your experience with applying for the personal and business version of a card?

My last Marriott card, they would not give me the free night because I had received the free night on the prior card, but they did give the points. anyone else with the same experience?

The last couple of times I have gotten a chase card I have had to call the reconsideration line and move some credit around and then I did get approved. My last card was the United Explorer on8/5/14. I didn’t know if they looked at hotel cards differently. What do you think my chances of getting approved would be?
