With The Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN you can earn 50,000 American Express Membership Rewards points.  That’s double the normal offer!

Emily recently completed the AMEX Business Gold Application and was approved!

Besides the increased welcome bonus, Emily will also earn 3X AMEX Membership Rewards points on a bonus spending category.  And the new small business card will NOT hurt her chances of being approved for any Chase cards.

Emily’s Looking Forward to Earning the 50,000 AMEX Membership Rewards Point Welcome Bonus With the AMEX Business Gold Card!

I’ll share more about Emily’s reasons for getting the AMEX small business card!

An AMEX Business Gold Application Can Lead to Over $500 Worth of Travel

You can now earn 50,000 American Express Membership Rewards points with the The Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.

So Emily applied to take advantage of this better offer!  She hasn’t had this card before so she’s eligible to earn the welcome bonus.  Remember, American Express only allows folks to get the welcome bonus ONCE per person, per lifetime on ALL their cards.

AMEX small business cards are also relatively easy to get.  As long as you’re operating a for-profit business, you can qualify for a small business card!

With her new card, Emily will also earn:

  • 3X AMEX Membership Rewards points per $1 spent in 1 of 5 categories of your choice
  • 2X AMEX Membership Rewards points per $1 spent on the 4 remaining categories
  • 1X AMEX Membership Rewards points per $1 spent on other purchases

And the $175 annual fee is waived for the first year.  So Emily can use the card for ~10 months to see if the perks are worth the annual fee.  Then, decide whether to keep the card or cancel.

Plus, there are no foreign transaction fees with this card.

Before you apply for this offer, you might want to check your mail.  Because 3 Million Mile Secrets team members received a targeted offer for this card to earn 75,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after meeting minimum spending requirements.

Selecting a 3X Earning Category

Emily will earn 3X AMEX Membership Rewards points on 1 of the 5 bonus categories she selects, which includes:

  • Airfare purchased directly from airlines
  • US purchases for advertising in select media
  • US purchases at gas stations
  • US purchases for shipping
  • US computer hardware, software, and cloud computing purchases made directly from select providers

Emily selected advertising because she’ll earn bonus points when she pays for advertisements for her side business.

Emily Chose Advertising as the 3X AMEX Bonus Category

Emily can change the bonus category from December 1 to January 31 each year.

For the remaining bonus categories, Emily will earn 2X AMEX Membership rewards points.

She’ll earn bonus points on purchases up to $100,000 in each of the 5 categories per year.  After that, she’ll earn 1 point per $1.

If she didn’t select a 3X bonus category, Emily would automatically earn 3X AMEX Membership Rewards points on airfare purchased directly from airlines.

Other Perks of Emily’s New AMEX Small Business Card

One of the best perks of Emily getting the The Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express is it will NOT appear on her personal credit report.

So the new card will NOT hurt her chances of being approved for Chase cards.  This is great news for folks who like miles & points because Chase has amazing cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve!

With her new AMEX small business card, Emily will also have access to American Express OPEN discounts and AMEX Offers.  I love AMEX Offers because you can save money on purchases you may have already been planning to make!

Emily doesn’t have a plan yet for what she’ll do with the welcome bonus points.  But she’ll have lots of flexibility because she can transfer the points to terrific airline partners like Air Canada or Delta!

Emily says she’ll likely transfer points to Delta to book award flights for her mom like she did on a recent mother-daughter trip to Oregon!

Emily Might Book Award Flights for Her Mom Using AMEX Membership Rewards Points

Or Emily could transfer points to Aeroplan, Air Canada’s loyalty program.  This way she can book award flights on any Star Alliance airline.  For example, she can use 55,000 Aeroplan points to book a one-way Business Class award flight from the US to Western Europe.

That’s why it’s valuable to collect flexible points, like AMEX Membership Rewards points.  Because with multiple transfer partners, you’ll have more options to book Big Travel!

Bottom Line

Emily applied for the improved offer on The Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express.  She’ll earn 50,000 American Express Membership Rewards points after meeting minimum spending requirements.  The welcome bonus is double the regular offer.

With the new card, Emily will also earn 3X AMEX Membership rewards points on a bonus spending category.  She selected advertising as the category.  She’ll earn 2X AMEX Membership rewards points on 4 remaining categories, including airfare purchased directly from airlines and at US gas stations.

Emily will have flexibility with her points because she can transfer them to great airline partners to book award flights.

I have an ad agency. By March of each year, I’ve gone through 100K of spending and received 300K points. Amex has been trying to talk me into upgrading my gold to platinum and giving me a new biz gold, hence allowing me to earn 600K points in one year. They have been a fantastic partner for my business. FYI to Emily, some advertising is not covered such as airport boards, etc. She should also double check her points. If a company (such as a newspaper) has their SIC number as a “marketing company”, Amex will not 3x bonus. She just needs to call and explain and they will correct it. Also if by chance she is buying advertising with a cable company, she should use the Ink card. Chase can’t differentiate the charges between cable subscription and cable advertising and will apply the 5x points to cable advertising. Thanks for everything you have taught me Daraius 🙂

Nina

I own a small ad agency and am considering applying for this card. Can you tell me a little bit about what advertising is or is not covered? The examples shown on the Amex website are things like NBC National Broadcasting. My credit card charges are going to show up from my local broadcasting company or their parent company, not from the national broadcaster.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

@Nina – Thanks for sharing that treasure trove of information!

Thanks a lot, am beaming about my 2nd approved BGR 50k bonus….YMMV it seems. Good luck to all folks who have/will apply for it.

@Bob – Certain small business accounts do not appear on your personal credit report. Here’s a prior post about this secret: https://millionmilesecrets.com/2016/05/31/if-you-dont-know-this-amex-secret-youre-missing-out-big-time/

HI,

1) are you sure this card does not show up on credit report that would hamper chase credit card application in future? AMEX does look at your credit report right? So how/why will it not show up as hard pull on the credit report?

2) Regardless, i applied and got approved for 2nd time, 50k bonus welcome confirmed with agent both on chat and phone. (prior card was closed in 2014)……..

Do reply ASAP.
