You can buy just about anything on Amazon, including gift cards to other sites.
This is very helpful if you’re trying to max out the $1,500 category bonus on the Chase Freedom for shopping at Amazon this quarter. You get 5X points for up to $1,500 in purchases or 7,500 Ultimate Rewards Points or $75 in cash back for using your Chase Freedom at Amazon this quarter.
It is also useful if you registered your American Express cards to get $25 back when you spend $75 or more at Amazon.

It can be difficult to spend $1,500 in a quarter at Amazon. But you can buy an electronic or physical gift card for any amount from Amazon.
You can then add the gift card balance to your Amazon account and use it whenever you want because the balance in your Amazon account never expires.
Note that you CANNOT use your gift card balance to buy more Amazon gift cards to OTHER gift cards. So you’re out of luck if you later decide that you want to use your Amazon gift card balance to buy a gift card to, say, Applebees’s.

Buying gift cards to other stores from Amazon is an easy way to maximize the Chase Freedom 4th quarter bonus. You can give these as gifts or keep them for yourself. And you don’t pay shipping when you order them on Amazon.
You can also buy other gift cards from Amazon to get $25 back when you spend $75 with your registered American Express card!
Note that you may be able to buy gift cards to stores for less by visiting sites which trade gift cards such as Gift Card Granny.

Emily’s dad loves Applebee’s, so we usually eat there when we visit him. There are over 2,000 Applebee’s restaurants in the US. So finding a nearby Applebee’s shouldn’t be that difficult.
B. Buca di Beppo
You can use Buca di Beppo gift cards at any of the 92 Buca di Beppo locations worldwide.
C. Buffalo Wild Wings
You can grab a plate of buffalo wings and watch the game, at 652 Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants throughout the US.
D. California Pizza Kitchen
You can use the California Pizza Kitchen gift cards at any of the 230 California Pizza Kitchen restaurants, including at airports!.
E. Chili’s
There are over 1,500 Chili’s restaurants. Emily’s dad also likes Chili’s, so perhaps I should stock up on these!
F. Claim Jumper
Although there are only 40 Claim Jumper restaurants in the US, portions are huge! You can easily split an entree between 2 people at Claim Jumper.
G. Cracker Barrel
Cracker Barrel has 620 restaurants in the US.
H. Dave and Buster’s
There are only 61 Dave and Buster’s in the US. But it’s a fun place to eat because there are arcade games. Too bad I’ve only visited a handful of Dave and Buster’s.
I. IHOP
You can use IHOP gift cards bought from Amazon at any of the 1,500 IHOP restaurants in the Americas. Emily loves the Rooty Tooty Fresh N Fruity breakfast at IHOP.
J. Outback Steakhouse
Outback Steakhouse has over 1,200 restaurants worldwide. And it’s the only restaurant that serves a true Bloomin’ Onion. My dad likes eating at Outback!
K. PF Chang’s
You can buy PF Chang’s gift cards on Amazon to use at any of their 204 restaurants.
L. Red Robin
There are 450 Red Robin restaurants in the US. I love the Peppercorn burger at Red Robin!
M. Ruby Tuesday
Ruby Tuesday has 850 restaurants.
N. Texas Roadhouse
You can use Texas Roadhouse gift cards at any of the 400 Texas Roadhouse restaurants in the US. I like the buckets of free peanuts and being able to throw the shells on the floor without Emily getting mad. I do feel strange when I throw them on the floor, though!
O. The Cheesecake Factory
You can choose from lots of different types of cheesecake from one of the 175 Cheesecake Factory restaurants in the US. And the portions are huge at The Cheesecake Factory!
2. Fast Food
A. Boston Market
There are 530 Boston Market restaurants in the US.
B. Domino’s
You can find a Domino’s Pizza in almost every city in the US. There are over 10,000 Domino’s Pizza locations in the world.
C. Einstein Bros
There are 773 Einstein Bros bagel shops, but I can never find one when I want one!
D. Jack in the Box
Jack in the Box has the funniest commercials, but I didn’t really like their burgers.
E. Panda Express
There are 1,600 Panda Express restaurants in the US, including airport locations. American Chinese food may not be popular among the food snobs, but I like it!
F. Panera Bread
Panera has over 1,700 restaurants in the US. When Emily wants to eat a light meal, she has a “You Pick Two” combination half sandwich and salad. My light mean is a full sandwich!
G. Qdoba
Qdoba has 600 restaurants in the US.
H. Starbucks
There are 20,891 Starbucks stores worldwide, including airport locations. I have a confession – I don’t really drink tea or coffee! I prefer to get my caffeine from soda.
I. Subway
Subway has 40,735 restaurants worldwide, including airport locations. Subway sandwiches make great picnic meals when traveling.
3. Movies
A. AMC Theaters
There are over 379 AMC Theaters in the US and Canada.
B. Fandango
Fandango is a ticketing service that lets you buy movie tickets online. You pay a service fee when you use Fandango. But it could be worth it to get tickets to the movie you want to see instead of potentially missing it by arriving after tickets are sold out.
C. Regal Entertainment
There are 575 Regal locations in the US. Regal Entertainment Group owns Regal Cinemas, Edwards Theatres, and United Artist Theatres. Gift cards can be used at any of the 3 theatre chains.
4. Department Stores
A. Kohls
There are 1,158 Kohl’s stores in the US.
You can also buy Kohl’s gift cards at office supply stores.
But if you’ve already maxed out your annual 5X Ultimate Rewards points at office supply stores when using your Chase Ink Plus or Chase Ink Bold , you can buy Kohl’s gift cards on Amazon when you get 5X points with the Chase Freedom.
B. Nordstrom
You can use Nordstrom gift cards to shop online or in any of the 252 stores in the US.
5. Grocery Stores
Whole Foods
You can buy Whole Foods gift cards on Amazon. I don’t shop here often because it is too expensive, but the stores sure look nice!
6. Pet supplies
Petco
Being able to buy Petco gift cards on Amazon when it’s a bonus category for the Chase Freedom means I can earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points when shopping for Joelle (our cat who thinks she’s a dog).
7. Clothes
A. American Eagle Outfitters
You can buy American Eagle Outfitters gift cards on Amazon to use at any of the 928 stores worldwide. It’s where I buy all my polo shirts.
B. Express
There are over 600 Express stores in the US. I have a hard time buying clothes for Emily so I thought an Express gift card would make shopping easier (for me)! It turns out that Emily doesn’t like shopping at Express!
8. Electronics
Game Stop
There are 6,700 Game Stop stores worldwide. I’ve never bought anything from GameStop, but I’ve seen the store in a lot of places!
8. Miscellaneous
A. Container Store
The Container Store sells packing cubes to keep clothes organized. Emily uses them, but I don’t. Gift cards can be used online or at one of the 60 stores in the US.
B. Sephora
There are over 1,700 Sephora stores worldwide. Which makes it convenient since Emily buys some of her makeup from Sephora.
C. Spafinder
You can buy Spafinder gift cards on Amazon. Gift cards can be used at any of the 20,000 participating spas. We sometimes get a massage when Emily and I go on vacation.
Bottom Line
You can buy gift cards for lots of restaurants, department stores, and other businesses on Amazon.
You can use this to get 5X points on your Chase Freedom because Amazon is included in the 5X category bonus until December 31, 2013. But don’t forget that you may be able to buy gift cards to stores for less by visiting sites which trade gift cards such as Gift Card Granny.
This could also be a good way to make use of the $25 statement credit for spending $75 or more on Amazon with your registered American Express card!
