Extensive Benefits From a Simple No-Annual-Fee Card
Unlimited 1.5% back (1.5X Chase Ultimate Rewards Points per $1) on ALL Purchases
Without spending and category limits to hold you back, you will earn 1.5% cash back (1.5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points per $1) on every purchase using this card. So simple!
My fiancee doesn’t have a credit card and believes almost every one of these popular myths! However, with some transparency and showing her how I use my credit cards, she filled out her first application for the Chase Freedom Unlimited. I recommended this card for her because she wants to be rewarded every time she makes a purchase.
Pair the Freedom Unlimited With Other Eligible Chase Cards for Big Travel With Small Money!
On their own, points linked to the Freedom Unlimited are worth 1 cent each. But if you have any of the below Chase Ultimate Rewards point earning credit cards, you can get significantly more value:
Many folks pair their Chase Freedom Unlimited with the Chase Sapphire Preferred (our favorite card for beginners). When you transfer your points linked to your Freedom Unlimited to the Sapphire Preferred, they’ll increase in value from 1 cent each to 1.25 cents each towards travel booked through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal! The same is true if you move your points to the Chase Ink Business Preferred.
Even better, if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve, you can combine your points to that card and they’ll be worth 1.5 cents each towards paid travel through the portal.
Once linked to an annual-fee Chase Ultimate Rewards card, you can also transfer your points to Chase’s excellent airline and hotel partners for award travel, like United Airlines, Hyatt, and Southwest!
Extended Warranty
Eligible purchases with your Chase Freedom Unlimited extend the manufacturer’s warranty of the product by 1 year!
With this coverage, you’ll get an additional year of warranty on eligible warranties of 3 years or less, up to a maximum of $10,000 per claim, and a maximum of $50,000 per account.
To be eligible for coverage, you must charge some portion of the item’s purchase price to your card or use reward points earned on your card toward the purchase. Check out page 11 in the Chase Freedom Unlimited Guide to Benefits to see what items qualify.
This benefit is secondary to any service contract or extended warranty you may have purchased or received.
Purchase Protection
You’ll get automatic purchase protection coverage when you shop with the Chase Freedom Unlimited, which covers you in the event of damage or theft.
If an eligible item you purchase is lost or stolen within 120 days, this coverage will replace, repair, or reimburse you up to a maximum of $500 for each claim and up to $50,000 total for your account.
Gifted items receive purchase protection too! Consider this during the holiday season when you are shopping. Pro tip: You still get purchase protection when you make purchases using your Chase Ultimate Rewards points! You can check the Chase Freedom Unlimited Guide to Benefits starting on page 6 for restrictions and exclusions about this coverage.Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver (Auto Rental CDW)
When you decline the rental agency’s Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) / Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), you’ll get secondary coverage when you pay for your car rental with the Chase Freedom Unlimited. Coverage is global and is eligible with most private passenger vehicles. Covered losses are:
- Physical damage and theft of the vehicle
- Valid loss-of-use charges while the damaged vehicle is out of service
- Reasonable and customary towing charges
You can find much more information starting on page 2 in the Chase Guide To Benefits. Remember, this is complimentary for just having your Chase Freedom Unlimited card active and using it to pay for your rental reservation!
Roadside Dispatch
To be honest, I didn’t know the Chase Freedom Unlimited card had this benefit until now! To use the roadside assistance, call 800-847-2869, listed on page 29 of the Guide to Benefits.
For a flat fee per service call, the program provides:
- Towing – Up to 5 miles included
- Tire Changing – You provide your own spare
- Jump Starting
- Lockout Service
- Fuel Delivery – Up to 5 gallons (cost of fuel not included)
- Winching – Within 100 feet of paved or maintained road
The Chase Guide To Benefits doesn’t state what the flat fee is, so I called the phone number above. A nice gentleman answered and informed me the flat fee is ~$70! While somewhat expensive, if you do need this service, take care in knowing there’s a team ready to assist you with any of the above.
