A big thanks to all the Million Mile Secrets Agents that have taken the time to enter our contest and share their travel tips with us.
Here are a few tips to inspire you before your next journey!
Sam recommends being prepared:
Always make copies of all your documents and store them as digital attachments in your email. They will come in handy if something goes wrong.
Being prepared is a form of insurance…you don’t think about it until you need it! I’ve done this in the past. But instead of storing the documents in my email account, I’ll put them on a USB drive and leave them with friends or family.
Marilyn has a suggestion for train travel:
If you are looking for train info, the website The Man in Seat Sixty-One is invaluable.
I had never heard of this website before. But I just got a Japan Rail Pass and his write up on it answered a bunch of questions I had. It looks like the site covers train travel in just about every country. Super helpful!
Katie uses this trick to open up her award flight options:
I love using my Southwest Companion Pass for positioning flights. We live in Austin, which doesn’t always have great international award availability.
This is definitely one of the unsung benefits of the Southwest Companion Pass!
Ally knows how to find the best deals:
I search flight prices on Google Flights first. Then I check the number of miles required on that airline AND on the Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal.
I can easily see if the price justifies the points, and which program uses the fewest number of points. I do the same for hotels.
This is a quick and easy way to ensure you’re getting the most value for your travel rewards.
Suzanne takes packing light to a new level:
My Top Tip: Wear an outfit, pack an outfit. Once you get used to doing nightly laundry it isn’t a big deal. Years ago, I read an article by Arthur Frommer, this was his tip and I thought to myself – NO WAY. But then, tried it and it is the way to go!
I imagine “NO WAY” is most folks reaction to this idea. But I’ve hiked long distances before using this principle and I have to say, it’s surprising how easy it is to adapt.
Although I didn’t do laundry every night. And I’ve never done it on a shorter 1 to 2-week vacation. But for long-term travelers who are on the move, this could make things easier.
