1. Gas Stations
This is an excellent opportunity to earn extra Chase Ultimate Rewards points! Because lots of folks spend plenty of money on fuel. Plus, gas stations usually sell more than just gas. Some offer groceries, fast food, toiletries, and more!
This category isn’t super exciting. Lyft credit card transactions code as a travel purchase, so you’ll already get bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you use a card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred (2 points per $1) or Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per $1). I’d rather use my Chase Freedom for other purchases that do NOT already earn bonus points.
Walgreens sells plenty of things you’d normally buy at the grocery store. With a little strategy, you should be able to do a fair percentage of your weekly shopping at Walgreens.
If you spend the maximum $1,500 in bonus categories, you’ll earn 7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points. That’s worth $75 in cash back!
And remember, Chase Ultimate Rewards points can be even more valuable if you have cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Business Preferred. When you have one of these cards, you can combine your points and transfer them to lots of great airline and hotel partners!
Note: Tomorrow, June 14, 2018, is the last day to activate the current Chase Freedom 5X bonus categories (grocery stores, PayPal, and Chase Pay). If you activate now, you’ll earn the bonus on eligible spending retroactively for the whole quarter.
And registering for next quarter’s bonus will NOT deactivate the current bonus categories for this quarter.
- Gas stations
Because folks spend a lot on gas, and Walgreens sells plenty of groceries, you should be able to earn 5% cash back (or 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points) on the full $1,500 in combined spending.
