I can’t say I will never get this card, but it would only be after I have earned all other possible Delta card sign-up bonuses and have none left to earn. Living in Atlanta, a Delta card provides real value since I save enough on my checked bags for the handful of Delta flights I take per year to cover even the annual fee on my Platinum version. I get SkyClub access through the Amex Business Platinum card. So, aside from the sign-up bonus, there is really no value for me in this card. I would effectively be buying SkyMiles at 1.125 cents/mile. That is cheaper than most valuations you will find online, but not by much. And, if this card carries the language about canceling in the first 12 months that other Delta Amex cards do, I might get dinged for a second $450 annual fee, making my “purchase price” for the miles 2.25 cents/mile.

Personally, unless you are going for elite, I would get the Platinum card and a Delta Gold card. You will pay more total in annual fees, but you can get the signup bonus on the Platinum Card as well and many more benefits for your huge annual fee. The Delta Gold card will give you all the free checked bag, in-flight food discounts, priority boarding, etc. perks that you can otherwise get and the Platinum card covers the SkyClubs. If can get value from the companion certificate, get a Platinum Delta card rather than Gold.
