Signing up for credit cards through partner links earns us a commission. Terms apply to the offers listed on this page. Here’s our full advertising policy: How we make money.

Via TravelUpdate, targeted folks can earn up to a 40% bonus on purchased Alaska Airlines miles through December 28, 2017.  So check your Alaska Airlines account to see which bonus you’ve been targeted for!

This is a tiered bonus, so the more you buy, the better the bonus.  If you were targeted for the full 40% bonus, you can buy Alaska Airlines miles for as little as ~2.1 cents each!

Through December 28, 2017, you can get up to a 40% bonus when you buy Alaska Airlines miles.  To see which offer you’ve been targeted for, sign-in to your Alaska Airlines account.

For example, some folks have been targeted to earn:

  • 0% bonus on a purchase of 1,000 to 9,000 Alaska Airlines miles
  • 20% bonus on a purchase of 10,000 to 19,000 Alaska Airlines miles
  • 35% bonus on a purchase of 20,000 to 39,000 Alaska Airlines miles
  • 40% bonus on a purchase of 40,000 to 60,000 Alaska Airlines miles

You can buy up to 60,000 Alaska Airlines miles per transaction (NOT including the bonus).  And there’s no limit to the total number of miles you can buy.  So do the math to see what makes sense for your particular situation!

Is It a Good Deal?

While this is a nice bonus, it’s still not a fabulous value.  We’ve seen bigger bonuses in the past.  And because this bonus is tiered, it probably will NOT help folks who need just a few thousand more miles to top off their account.

But if you’re interested in flying Business Class at a discount, it could be worth it!

For example, if you were targeted to earn a 40% bonus and bought 50,000 Alaska Airlines miles, you’d pay ~$1,478 (including taxes and fees) for a total of 70,000 Alaska Airlines miles.  Or ~2.1 cents per mile ($1,478 / 70,000 miles).

I Flew Cathay Pacific First Class and LOVED It

70,000 Alaska Airlines miles is enough for a one-way First Class ticket from the US to Asia on Cathay Pacific.  And a First Class ticket to Asia can easily cost $3,000+ one-way.  So spending $1,478 on Alaska Airlines miles for the same ticket is a great deal!

Remember, you can use Alaska Airlines miles for flights on their partner airlines, like British Airways, Delta, and Cathay Pacific.  And make sure to read this post about how to use fewer miles for short flights with Alaska Airlines’ new award chart!

Bottom Line

Alaska Airlines is targeting folks to earn up to a 40% bonus when buying Alaska Airlines miles through December 28, 2017.

While this is a nice bonus, I still recommend folks only buy miles if they have a certain award flight in mind.  Or if you want to fly in comfortable Business or First Class seats at a big discount.
