Good news for folks champing at the bit to book summertime travel!

Southwest has extended their schedule through August 6, 2018.  So now’s the time to plan your summer vacation!  And because Southwest has a generous refund policy, you don’t have to worry about booking before your plans are set in stone.

Plus, if you have the Southwest Companion Pass, a friend or family member can join you for (nearly) free anytime you fly Southwest for up to 2 years!

Southwest flies to lots of fun domestic and international cities.  Emily and I love Southwest because of things like 2 free checked bags and no change or cancellation fees.

Southwest has extended their schedule through August 6, 2018.  So you can book paid and award Southwest flights through the middle of the summer!

If you have travel plans, you can book your flights now before all the good routes are snatched up!

I recommend booking your Southwest tickets as far in advance as possible.  If your plans change (or the price of your ticket drops), you can modify or cancel your flight without penalty.

1.   Paid Ticket Cancellation Policy

Paid Southwest tickets can be cancelled within 24 hours of booking for a full refund.  Plus, you can cancel non-refundable tickets (Wanna Get Away fares) without a fee, as long as you cancel at least 10 minutes before departure.  The value of the ticket can be used towards another Southwest flight within 1 year of the original ticket’s issue date.

2.   Award Ticket Cancellation Policy

There are NO fees for changing or cancelling an award ticket.  The points will be immediately returned to your account.

The quickest way to earn Southwest points is by opening the Chase Southwest credit cards.

Both the Chase Southwest Plus and Chase Southwest Premier cards currently come with 40,000 Southwest points after meeting minimum spending requirements.  And the Chase Southwest Premier Small Business card comes with 60,000 Southwest points after meeting minimum spending requirements.

Southwest points are generally worth ~1.6 cents each towards flights.

To get the Southwest Companion Pass (which I consider the best deal in travel), you must earn 110,000 Southwest points in a calendar year.  Then a friend or family member can fly with you for (almost) free for up to 2 years.

So by opening 1 personal and 1 small business Southwest credit card and meeting minimum spending requirements, you’ll have nearly enough points to qualify!

Bottom Line

Southwest’s schedule is now open through August 6, 2018.

I recommend booking soon, before the dates you want are gone or prices increase.  Because if your plans change, you can modify or cancel your flight without penalty.  And summer is one of the busiest travel times of the year!
