Looking to earn the Southwest Companion Pass (the BEST deal in travel!)?

Via IAD Gr8 on Twitter, some folks have been targeted to earn a free Companion Pass after making just 1 purchase on the Chase Southwest card.  Plus 40,000 Southwest points after meeting the minimum spending requirements on the card!

So check your email and spam folder to see if you qualify for the offer!  So far, it looks like only California residents are receiving the email.

Targeted Earn The BEST Deal In Travel With Just 1 Purchase On This Airline Card
Your BFF Can Fly With You for (Almost!) Free for an Entire Year After Making a Single Purchase on the Chase Southwest Card!

Great Targeted Offer on the Chase Southwest Card

With this targeted offer on the personal Chase Southwest card, you’ll earn the Southwest Companion Pass after your first purchase.  Plus an additional 40,000 Southwest points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

The deal is good for applications received by November 30, 2017.  So check your email to see if you’ve been targeted!

Other important terms:

  • You must have a valid California address
  • Current cardholders of ANY Chase Southwest card are NOT eligible
  • If you’ve earned the sign-up bonus from ANY Chase Southwest card in the past 24 months, you’re also NOT eligible
  • Allow up to 8 weeks after your first purchase for Companion Pass to be activated

Is This Worth It?

This is a great deal, but don’t forget, Chase’s 5/24 rule still applies.  So it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for this card if you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting Chase business cards and these other business cards) in the past 24 months.

Plus, the Companion Pass you earn with this deal will only be valid through the end of 2018.

If you earn the companion pass by applying for 2 Chase Southwest cards and earning 110,000+ Southwest points, your Companion Pass is valid until December 31 of the year after you earned it.  For example, if you earned the Companion Pass early in 2018, it would be valid until December 31, 2019 (nearly 2 years!)

So depending on your travel plans, you might want to wait for the sign-up bonuses to increase again on the Chase Southwest cards rather than go for this deal.

Bottom Line

Some folks in California have been targeted for an enticing offer on the personal Chase Southwest card.  Where you can earn the Southwest Companion Pass after a single purchase.  Plus 40,000 Southwest points after spending $1,000 on purchases within 3 months of opening your account!

This could be a great deal if you do NOT want to wait for better offers on the Chase Southwest cards to return, in order to earn the Companion Pass.  Or if you have a lot of travel planned in 2018 and want to earn the Companion Pass as quickly and easily as possible!

If you were targeted, do you plan on taking advantage of this offer?  And let me know if you got an email outside of California!

Hi, I received the card and made more than one purchase however the companion status doesn't show on my sw account. Do you know how long it takes to show, I thought the application said after 1 purchase?

Just wondering if you waited until January 1, 2018 to make your first purchase would you get the companion pass for two years then?

Don't think so. Terms indicate: Promotional Companion Pass is valid from the time promotion qualifications are met, through December 31, 2018

but also indicates: If Companion Pass is earned by flying 100 qualifying one-way flights or earning 110,000 qualifying points in the calendar year while qualified for promotional Companion Pass through December 31, 2018, the regular Companion Pass qualifications will supersede the promotional Companion Pass, entitling the Member to Companion Pass through December 31, 2019.

Now off to see if Chase will switch my wife to these new terms for the card with 60K mile bonus she just got approved for the week prior. 🙁

What if the folks that take advantage of the offer wait until January 1st (since it's within a 3-month period) to make their first purchase...will they get the companion pass for 2019 as well? Or do they have to make a purchase in a shorter amount of time because of the ease of earning the pass? Not in California, but thought to ask. 🙂

Can we really stop with the "This airline card" and "This hotel card" clickbait titles? Just put the name in, don't be that guy.

Really tiring, few more and I'm deleting this bookmark...

That's hot.
