If you want more United Airlines miles, here’s a promotion for you!

Via Travel Codex, you can get up to a 75% bonus on purchased United Airlines miles through September 29, 2017.  If you have a particular trip in mind, or need some extra United Airlines miles to top-off your account, this could be worth a look.

Buy United Airlines Miles With a Big Bonus

Link:   United Airlines Buy Miles Promotion

Through September 29, 2017, you can earn up to a 75% bonus when you buy United Airlines miles with their latest promotion.

You must purchase miles in increments of 1,000.  And the more miles you buy, the bigger bonus you’ll earn:

  • 25% bonus when you buy between 5,000 and 19,000 miles
  • 50% bonus when you buy between 20,000 and 29,000 miles
  • 75% bonus when you buy between 30,000 and 80,000 miles

It can take 48 hours for the miles to post.  And purchased miles do NOT count towards elite status.

Remember, you can only purchase 150,000 miles per account per calendar year.  And United Airlines miles expire after 18 months, unless there’s activity in your account.

Is This a Good Deal?

If you need more United Airlines miles for a specific award, this bonus may be worth it for you.  But it often does NOT make sense for less expensive coach flights.

For example, if you bought 35,000 miles, you’d spend $1,317 and earn a bonus 26,250 miles, for a total of  61,250 miles.  That’s enough for a round-trip award flight from the US to anywhere in Europe.  But depending on where you’re flying, flights to Europe can cost much less than $1,317.

You’ll Get the Best Value From United Airlines Miles When you Book a Business Class Seat

But this deal might be good for folks who want to book Business Class award flights on United Airlines or their airline partners.  If you bought 66,000 miles, you’d spend $2,483 and earn a bonus 49,500 miles, for a total of 115,500 miles.

That’s enough for a round-trip Business Class ticket from the US to anywhere in Europe!  And Business Class flights to Europe often easily cost $3,000+ round-trip.

More Ways to Earn United Airlines Miles

You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to United Airlines at a 1:1 ratio from cards like the Chase Sapphire ReserveSapphire Preferred, and Ink Business Preferred.

Or sign-up for a card like the Chase United Explorer card.  It currently comes with a 40,000 United Airlines mile sign-up bonus after meeting minimum spending requirements.

Bottom Line

Through September 29, 2017, you’ll earn up to a 75% bonus when you buy United Airlines miles.

This could be a good deal if you want to book an expensive Business Class flight.  But it probably doesn’t make sense for folks booking coach seats.

I recently made a reservation on United and at that time was offered a chance to buy miles at a price that was substantially lower than this offer, even with the bonus.
