1.   Southwest Extends Schedule

Good news for folks planning spring travel next year!  You can now book Southwest flights through June 1, 2018.  So you can begin your Valentines Day or Mother’s Day travel preparations!

Emily and I love Southwest because they fly to lots of fun places in the US, and even some international destinations!  Plus, they have extra friendly traveler policies, like 2 free checked bags.  And you can cancel non-refundable tickets without a fee as long as you cancel at least 10 minutes prior to departure.

2.   Southwest Back-to-School Airfare Sale

Link:   Southwest Fare Sale

Are you traveling between September 19, 2017, and February 14, 2018?

Southwest is having a fare sale from lots of destinations starting at just $39 one-way (though most fares are higher).  For example, I found tons of flights from Wichita to St Louis for $49 one-way in December.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • You must book by August 31, 2017
  • You must purchase tickets at least 21 days in advance
  • Domestic travel is valid from September 19, 2017, to February 14, 2018
  • International travel is valid from September 19, 2017, to December 13, 2017, and January 9, 2017, to March 1, 2018

The number of Southwest points you pay for an award seat is tied to the price of the ticket.  So when Southwest has a sale, you’ll pay fewer points for an award seat.  And if you’ve already booked a Southwest flight, but see a lower price with this sale, you can cancel your booking for free and re-book with this sale price!

Make sure to check out Million Mile Secrets contributor Lyn’s post on how to tell if a Southwest fare sale is worthwhile.

3.   Tweet Marriott for Bonus Points

Marriott is giving folks the opportunity to earn bonus points with simple interactions through social media (up to 45,000 bonus points per year!).

According to Michael W Travels, you can earn 50 bonus Marriott points simply by responding to this Marriott tweet.  That’s not a lot of points, but it takes practically no effort.  And points can add up quickly!

Note:   These points will NOT reset the expiration date on your Marriott points.

4.   WOW Air Flights Starting at $69

Link:   WOW Air Fare Sale

WOW Air is having a sale on their already super low fares to Europe!

Between September and December 2017, you can book $69 flights from San Francisco or Los Angeles to:

  • Berlin
  • Brussels
  • Copenhagen
  • Dublin
  • Edinburgh
  • Stockholm

You can also reach London and Paris for $69 one-way, but only if you buy a round-trip flight.

I’ve written about WOW Air, a budget airline based in Iceland.  They’re a great option for no-frills flights, with good service and clean planes.  Just remember, WOW Air charges fees for seat selection, large carry-on bags, and checked bags.  So you’ll get the best deal if you can pack light.

And here’s my trip report from my visit to Iceland.  I learned Icelanders are some of the kindest folks in the world!
