1.   25% Off JetBlue Award Flights

Link:   JetBlue Award Sale

Until 11:59 pm on August 26, 2017, you can book JetBlue award flights between September 6, 2017, and November 7, 2017, for 25% off!

You do NOT have to register for this promotion.  So just begin booking your flight, and save points!

News You Can Use The Death Of Air Berlins Loyalty Program Up To 10000 Starwood Points More
Book an Award Flight to the Bahamas for 25% Fewer JetBlue Points!

Keep in mind, this sale is for award flights only.  So if you’re paying with cash, you’ll pay regular price.

2.   Southwest Sale

Link:   Southwest Early Birds and Night Owls Promotion

Until August 27, 2017, you can book extra cheap flights between September 12, 2017, and February 14, 2018!  The catch is that you have to travel either before 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • You must purchase 21 days in advance
  • There are blackout dates
  • This sale is NOT valid for flights to and from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Grand Rapids, Michigan
  • Other restrictions apply

I found flights from Atlanta to Chicago for $42 (or 1,861 Southwest points) on September 27, 2017.

Note:   Even if you’d prefer to fly in the middle of the day, it’s worth checking out this deal.  I found flights that cost lower than this promotional price when using Southwest points.

3.   Targeted:   Up to 10,000 Bonus Starwood Points

Link:   Starwood Referral Link Promotion

If you’re targeted for Starwood’s latest promotion, you can earn a bonus of up to 10,000 Starwood points by adding authorized users!  You’ll get 2,500 Starwood points per authorized user you add to your Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express by September 30, 2017.

There are a few rules:

  • Each authorized user must spend $1,000 within 3 months of being added to activate the bonus
  • Each authorized user must be at least 13 years old
  • Authorized users must never have had a defaulted AMEX account
  • Interest charges, cash advances, travelers checks, prepaid cards, etc. will NOT count towards minimum spending

This is a great deal, because Starwood points are very valuable for hotel stays.  And you can transfer Starwood points to 30+ airlines, too!

4.   Goodbye, Air Berlin TopBonus

Air Berlin’s frequent flyer program is no more!

As of today, you can no longer earn or redeem Air Berlin miles.  That’s a shame, and likely means that we soon won’t be able to redeem for partner award flights on Air Berlin, either!

So folks who liked using American Airlines miles or British Airways Avios points to fly to Europe on Air Berlin, while avoiding British Airways fuel surcharges, will have to find another way.

This is a good reminder that airline miles can devalue (or disappear!) overnight.  So it’s good to use your miles and points as often as you can.

Bottom Line

There are a few noteworthy news items today:

  • JetBlue is having a 25% off sale on award flights
  • There’s a targeted offer to earn 10,000 Starwood points after adding authorized users
  • You’ll save on certain Southwest flights that depart early in the morning or at night
  • Air Berlin’s frequent flyer program has disappeared

Let me know if any of these items affect your upcoming travel!

SPG CC: if each of us already have the American Express SPG card, can we each add the other as an authorized user and each get the points for both of our SPG accounts?

Will this affect the Chase 5/24 for the authorized user? We are at the 5/24 limit but hopefully within about six months, we can apply again if there's another great Chase promotion after that. It's adding each other as authorized users resets the 2 year clock on that Chase rule, we will not do it. Thanks.
