Planning a trip to Asia?  Now’s a good time to book award flights!

Via The Gate, Delta is having a flash sale on coach and Premium Economy award tickets from the continental US to Asia until tomorrow, August 16, 2017.

You can fly round-trip to Asia starting at just 65,000 Delta miles in coach or 80,000 Delta miles for Premium Select seats.  Travel dates are between October 30, 2017, and April 17, 2018.  Exact travel and blackout dates vary by route.

For example, I found a coach ticket from Portland to Tokyo leaving October 30, 2017, and returning November 8, 2017, for 65,000 Delta miles and ~$51 in taxes and fees.  That’s a good deal, considering these tickets usually cost ~$1,200+!

Fly to Asia for Fewer Miles!

Good news for folks who have a lot of Delta miles or AMEX Membership Rewards points!

Delta is having a generous flash award sale to Asia.  You’ll save 5,000 Delta miles round-trip when you book a coach ticket.  And 11,000 Delta miles on Delta Premium Select seats.

Delta Premium Select is Delta’s upgraded Premium Economy cabin on their new Airbus A350 planes. 😉

Here are the details:

  • You must book by August 16, 2017, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time (tomorrow!)
  • You must book a round-trip coach ticket
  • Sale only good for flights originating in the continental US
  • The sale is good for travel between October 31, 2017, and April 17, 2017 (depending on your route)
  • Blackout dates vary by route, so check the terms and conditions for details
  • You’ll still pay taxes & fees

Normally, round-trip coach tickets to Asia start at 70,000 Delta miles.  And the lowest price I found for a Premium Select seat was 99,000 Delta miles.  So this is a decent deal, even though we’ve seen better Delta award ticket sales to Asia in the past.

With this sale, you can fly to cities like:

  • Beijing
  • Seoul
  • Tokyo

Use Hotel Points to Stay in Asia for Cheap!

There are lots of ways to get cheap or free hotel rooms with points from credit cards.  And you can take a peek at my favorite HiltonHyattRitz-Carlton, and Starwood hotels in Asia!

My favorite tool for finding hotels you can book with points is Hotel Hustle.  And if you don’t have hotel points, you can transfer flexible points like Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express Membership Rewards to different hotel programs.

Don’t forget about Airbnb!  It’s a fantastic way to save money on accommodations, especially for longer stays.  Here are some tips on how to negotiate a better Airbnb price, and how to find a safe and comfortable Airbnb.

You may have Delta miles available to you without realizing it!  Take a look at my handy chart to help you figure out which points transfer to which airlines!

For example, you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points from cards like the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express or The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN, to Delta at a ratio of 1:1.  And transfers are instant!

There are plenty of credit cards that earn Delta miles, like the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Expressand the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express.  You won’t be able to earn the bonus miles in time for this sale, but you can at least prepare for the next sale!

Bottom Line

Delta is having a flash award sale to Asia!  Round-trip coach tickets from the US start at 65,000 Delta miles.  And you can get Delta Premium Select seats for only 80,000 Delta miles, instead of 99,000 miles.

The sale ends tomorrow, August 16, 2017.  And is good for travel between October 30, 2017, and April 17, 2018, depending on your route.  So check the terms and conditions for details!

And remember, if you’re low on Delta miles, you can transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points to Delta at a 1:1 ratio.
