Good news for folks with travel plans this coming winter!  Via Deals We Like, you can now book Southwest flights through March 7, 2018.

Southwest flies to lots of fun places in the US, including a number of destinations south of the border.  So you can escape the winter’s cold!

Plus, Emily and I love Southwest because of their extra friendly traveler policies, like 2 free checked bags and no change or cancellation fees.

You can now book Southwest flights (paid and award tickets) through March 7, 2018.

This is especially great for folks who want to make plans this winter to escape to a sunny destination.  Because Southwest flies to tropical spots like Aruba, Belize, Miami, and more!

With Southwest, it’s best to book early, because if your plans change, Southwest has a great refund policy!  And if fares go down, you can cancel and re-book at the lower price.

1.   Paid Ticket Cancellation Policy

Paid Southwest tickets can be cancelled within 24 hours of booking for a full refund.  Plus, you can cancel non-refundable tickets (Wanna Get Away fares) without a fee, as long as you cancel at least 10 minutes before departure.  The value of the ticket can be used towards another Southwest flight within 1 year of the original ticket’s issue date.

2.   Award Ticket Cancellation Policy

There are NO fees for changing or cancelling an award ticket.  The points will be immediately returned to your account.

Don’t forget, now is a great time to earn the Southwest Companion Pass, because for a limited time, all 3 Chase Southwest cards are offering 60,000 Southwest point sign-up bonuses after meeting minimum spending requirements.

You can also transfer the Chase Ultimate Rewards points you earn with the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred, and Chase Ink Bold or Ink Plus (no longer available) directly to Southwest at a 1:1 ratio.  But they will NOT count towards the Southwest Companion Pass.

Bottom Line

The Southwest schedule is now open through March 7, 2018.  Make sure you book quickly before the dates you want are gone.  Because if your plans change, you change or cancel your flight without penalty.

And if you have the Southwest Companion Pass, a friend or family member can join you for (nearly) free anytime you fly Southwest for up to 2 years!

Is it best to wait until the new year to apply for these cards if your trying to maximize the companion pass? Hubby would apply for these 2 cards. I’m maxed out on Chase right now. He could do it now or wait until January.

I was hoping to apply for the 60,000 point offer for the Chase Southwest Premier card, before it goes away, but it will not be 90 days since my last card application until July 11th. I do have one slot open within Chase’s 5/24 rule and I do have excellent credit so I’m fairly certain I’ll be approved when I do apply. My question is…must I definitely wait until at least 90 days since my last application/approval before applying for this card. My fear is that the 60K offer will disappear before July 11th. With this card, I would acquire the Companion Pass. Thanks for any advice as to the timing of my app. for this card.
